Demand for domestic travel is driving the revival of tourism in Việt Nam and at the same time recompensing for the decline in the number of overseas visitors, said the experts of tourism and hospitality.

In the initial nine months of 2023, Việt Nam has welcomed 8.9 million international visitors.

These numbers equal 69 per cent of the visitor numbers during the same time in 2019, as per the data from the General Statistics Office.

During the period, domestic visitors reached almost 93 million.

The Việt Nam tourism has witnessed major growth, motivated mostly by local tourism, as per Dr. the senior program manager of hospitality and tourism management program at Vietnam RMIT University, Jackie Ong.

The revival of local tourism made Việt Nam’s domestic aviation sector the world’s fastest-recovering unit and the fifth rapid-growing aviation market in the world. By 2035, it is hoped to reach 150 million air transport passengers, Ong said.

Việt Nam got major popularity as a global travel destination, after countries reopened their borders once again. This is obvious in the country in 2022 winning 16 top award categories in the World Travel Awards and being awarded as the Leading Destination in Asia and the Leading Nature Destination in Asia.
