Tourism Malaysia is making its 20th appearance at India’s biggest tourism fair, the South Asia’s Travel & Tourism Exchange (SATTE) in Delhi NCR, from February 22 to 24, 2024. This participation underscores its ongoing commitment to position Malaysia as a top choice for Indian tourists.

This year at SATTE, Tourism Malaysia is highlighting a range of specialized offerings, including shopping, golf, luxury experiences, eco-friendly travel, amusement parks, and romantic getaway packages. Additionally, it’s tapping into growing markets like destination weddings and movie-inspired travel, aiming to attract Indian visitors by showcasing Malaysia as an ideal locale. The event, expected to draw over 35,000 industry professionals, plays a crucial role in boosting visitor numbers from India through intensive marketing and enhanced collaborations among travel industry stakeholders.

Leading the Malaysian contingent is Mr. Muhammad Akmal Hafiz Abdul Aziz, Deputy Director of the Tourism Malaysia New Delhi Office, along with 45 entities including tour operators, accommodation providers, tourist attraction owners, airlines, Tourism Selangor, and the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), a part of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia.

Tourism Malaysia has been active in the Indian market, participating in events like the Malaysia Food and Cultural Festival and the Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) 2024 in Mumbai, as well as conducting a roadshow in key Indian cities including Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad.

“Apart from promoting lifestyle segments, Tourism Malaysia is also leveraging the niche product segment which could be a big platform for Malaysia, especially as a preferred wedding destination from the Indian market. Additionally, we are keen to promote Malaysia as a destination of choice for film-induced tourism. A lot of incentives are being provided should one come to do their filming in Malaysia,” said Mr. Muhammad Akmal Hafiz Abdul Aziz.

India remains a critical market for Malaysia due to strong economic and cultural links, being the fifth largest source of tourists. From January to November 2023, Malaysia welcomed 17.8 million tourists, with 587,703 from India. With 181 flights offering 33,851 seats weekly between the two countries, connectivity is robust through carriers like Malaysia Airlines, Batik Air, AirAsia, and IndiGo.

Furthermore, Tourism Malaysia is leveraging a visa-free policy for Indian tourists valid until December 31, 2024, to attract more visitors. This initiative also supports the promotion of Visit Malaysia 2026, furthering Malaysia’s visibility throughout the event.
