Tourism to be Future of Manipur’s Economy: Manipur Tourism Minister

Tourism will be the future of Manipur’s economy and the government has identified 57 tourist destinations to develop the tourism sector, Manipur Tourism Minister N Biren Singh, who is also the Leader of the House, said.


On Thursday, during the ongoing third session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, he told the House while answering the policy cut motion raised by opposition MLAs K Meghachandra Singh and Th Lokeshwar Singh in the Tourism demand.


Prior to explaining the policy cut motions, N Biren Singh addressed the House on Manipur’s achievements, which were reported in a national media article. According to the newspaper, CM Biren stated that Manipur ranks first among Northeastern states in the tourism sector and ranks 21st out of all Indian states.


In response to the policy cut motions, CM Biren stated that the current administration has expanded the number of Sangai festival venues in the state to 15 in order to encourage tourism. He stated that the government will continue to develop tourism attractions in Jessami, the site of India’s first fight with the Japanese and British.


N Biren further stated that due to the delay in the construction for road connectivity, water facility, and electricity supply at the Gwarok Mahadev temple complex, the government will take the required steps to fulfil the pending works.
