Scandic has arranged a fresh long-term funding structure worth SEK 7.5 billion, reinforcing its expansion ambitions and strategic growth plans. The financing package is designed to support the company’s ongoing development strategy, including its planned acquisition of the Dalata Hotel Group, while also enhancing overall financial flexibility across the organisation.

The agreement officially took effect on 2 July and is structured with an initial maturity period of three years. It also includes an option to extend the facility for a further two years, providing Scandic with additional stability and financial headroom for future operations and investment decisions.

“Scandic has a strong financial position and a clear growth strategy. This new long-term financing framework provides significant flexibility to support our continued expansion, including the planned acquisition of Dalata. We are also pleased to further strengthen our banking group with additional relationship banks that combine broad international reach with strong local expertise across Scandic’s markets,” says Pär Christiansen, Chief Financial Officer at Scandic Hotels Group.

A structured financing arrangement has been successfully organised through leading Nordic financial institutions, reinforcing the strength of cross-border banking cooperation in large-scale funding operations. The transaction has been coordinated by DNB and Nordea Bank Abp, Swedish branch, which have taken on key leadership roles as Coordinating Bookrunners and Mandated Lead Arrangers. Their involvement reflects a central position in managing the execution, distribution, and structuring of the financing package across participating lenders.

In addition to their arranging responsibilities, Nordea Bank Abp’s Swedish branch has also assumed critical administrative functions within the deal. Acting as both Documentation Agent and Facility Agent, it is responsible for overseeing the preparation, execution, and ongoing management of legal and operational documentation tied to the financing. This dual role ensures that the facility remains compliant with agreed terms while maintaining smooth coordination between all parties involved throughout the lifecycle of the agreement.

The financing has been made possible through the participation of a diversified syndicate of established relationship banks. This consortium includes DNB, Nordea Bank Abp (Swedish branch), Allied Irish Banks PLC (AIB), Barclays Bank Ireland PLC, NatWest Bank Plc, Swedbank AB (publ), and the Swedish Export Credit Corporation. Each institution contributes to the overall stability and capacity of the financing structure, spreading risk while ensuring adequate liquidity for the transaction.

Such syndicated financing structures are commonly used in large-scale funding arrangements where a single lender may not be able to support the full exposure. By bringing together multiple financial institutions, the arrangement ensures both financial resilience and operational flexibility. The participating banks typically share responsibilities according to their commitments, allowing for a balanced distribution of credit risk while maintaining unified terms under a common financing framework.

The involvement of Nordic and European banks highlights the continued importance of regional banking networks in facilitating complex financial transactions. Institutions such as DNB and Nordea play a central role in bridging capital markets across Scandinavia and broader European jurisdictions. Their expertise in structured finance and syndicated lending positions them as key facilitators in transactions requiring coordination across multiple regulatory and financial environments.

Similarly, the participation of major international banking institutions such as Barclays Bank Ireland PLC and NatWest Bank Plc underscores the cross-border nature of the financing structure. These banks bring extensive global lending experience and established credit frameworks, enhancing the overall robustness of the syndicate. Swedbank AB (publ) and the Swedish Export Credit Corporation further strengthen the Nordic dimension of the arrangement, contributing both regional knowledge and export-focused financial support mechanisms.

From a structural perspective, the designation of Coordinating Bookrunners and Mandated Lead Arrangers is central to the execution of such transactions. These roles involve managing lender commitments, coordinating documentation processes, and ensuring alignment between all syndicate members during negotiation and closing phases. The efficiency of this coordination is critical in ensuring that funding is delivered in a timely and orderly manner.

The appointment of a dedicated Documentation Agent and Facility Agent further reinforces operational discipline within the financing framework. These roles are essential in maintaining consistency across legal documentation, monitoring compliance, and facilitating communication between borrowers and lenders. They also help ensure that all financial covenants, repayment schedules, and contractual obligations are accurately recorded and adhered to throughout the term of the facility.

Overall, the financing arrangement demonstrates a high level of institutional collaboration between leading European and Nordic financial entities. By combining expertise, capital strength, and administrative oversight, the syndicate structure provides a stable and scalable funding platform. Such arrangements continue to play a vital role in supporting large transactions across infrastructure, corporate expansion, and cross-border investment activities, reflecting the ongoing importance of syndicated lending in global financial markets.
