Türkiye is increasing its efforts, led by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, for creating a sustainable tourism industry that will help Türkiye realize the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

Türkiye has launched the Safe Tourism Certificate program in the midst of the pandemic.

The country has signed a partnership contract with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) in the opening months of this year and became the first government in the world to build up a compulsory countrywide program with the GSTC.

The tourism industry of Türkiye will be modernized with the 3-year contract signed with the GSTC, which deals with the worldwide standards in sustainable tourism.

In the first phase of the contract, the nationwide program conditions would be determined, and scrutiny firms will be given guidance.

Next year, in the first week of February, the stakeholders in the tourism industry will become part of this procedure.

The program’s first phase will become functioning in early 2023. The second phase will be carried out progressively in 2025. The program is intended to come to an end in 2030, when all international standards are achieved.

The concord with the GSTC will also help in realizing the goals of The Paris Agreement, which Türkiye inked last year.

The partnership with GSTC will emphasize Türkiye’s position as a strong contestant in the international arena, while helping the country match up with global tourism trends.
