Turkmenistan Airlines has embarked on a historic venture, initiating the first-ever direct flights between Turkmenistan and Vietnam, symbolizing a significant milestone in the aviation sector of both countries.

On March 6, a Boeing 777-300ER, adorned with the emblem of Turkmenistan Airlines, gracefully touched down at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City at 1:30 a.m., marking the commencement of this direct air route from the capital of Ashgabat. This development is not just a new chapter in air travel but a bridge connecting two distinct cultures and economies.

Scheduled to operate bi-weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays until October 27, this service is a testament to the growing relationship and mutual interest between Turkmenistan and Vietnam. With an economy ticket priced at approximately $500 or VND12 million, the route is positioned to be an accessible option for travelers, fostering tourism, business exchanges, and cultural interactions between the two nations.

Toyli Sakhadov, a senior leader at Turkmenistan Airlines, revealed the airline’s longstanding interest in the Vietnamese market, dating back to 2014. This vision led to the strategic acquisition of two Boeing 777-300ERs in 2022, specifically to serve this new route, showcasing the airline’s commitment and optimism towards fostering connectivity between Ashgabat and Ho Chi Minh City.

The introduction of this service dramatically reduces travel time between the two cities, cutting it down from 18 to just nine hours. This significant reduction not only makes travel more convenient but also opens up new avenues for increased trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges, making it a game-changer for both countries’ economies and their people’s mobility.

Before the establishment of this passenger route, Turkmenistan Airlines laid the groundwork by launching a cargo route to Vietnam using the Airbus-330-200P2F in 2022. This initiative expanded in 2023 with an additional weekly cargo flight to Hanoi, indicating the growing trade and economic ties being fostered through aviation.

This direct flight service is a clear indicator of the evolving aviation landscape, as airlines explore new markets and direct routes to meet the growing demand for travel and trade. For Turkmenistan and Vietnam, this connection is more than just a route; it’s a bridge towards enhancing bilateral relations, exploring economic opportunities, and bringing people closer in an increasingly interconnected world.
