One year after taking over Mare Nostrum Resort, Spring Hotels has achieved strong growth, with the property recording a 19% rise in revenue. The resort also saw a 15% increase in overnight stays, adding more than 43,000 extra room nights compared with the previous period. While the destination itself has remained a strong performer, Spring Hotels has attributed the progress to its own operational strategy, advanced revenue management practices, commercial planning and technology-driven approach, rather than relying solely on wider market trends.

During the first 12 months under Spring Hotels’ ownership, Mare Nostrum Resort was successfully integrated into the company’s wider portfolio. The move significantly expanded the group’s operational footprint while preserving service standards and maintaining stability among the resort’s teams. Through a structured integration process, Spring Hotels introduced its management framework across the property, creating new opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen sales performance and deliver measurable commercial results.

Miguel Villarroya, CEO of Spring Hotels, said:

“Acquiring Mare Nostrum was an important milestone for Spring Hotels, but the real achievement has been demonstrating what our operating model can deliver at scale. Over the past year, we have successfully integrated the resort into our portfolio, bringing our management model to life across the resort while maintaining the service quality and team stability our guests and employees expect. These results are a testament to the commitment of our people and the strength of the platform we have built, giving us confidence as we continue investing in the long-term future of the business.”

Spring Hotels Accelerates Sustainable Growth in Canary Islands With Local Partnerships, Employee Housing and Hotel Upgrades

Spring Hotels is strengthening its position as a responsible tourism leader in the Canary Islands by combining business growth with strong environmental, social and governance commitments. The hotel group has successfully achieved the ESG objectives connected to its sustainable financing agreement with CaixaBank, proving that financial success and responsible operations can progress together.

The company’s latest initiatives highlight its long-term commitment to creating value not only for guests but also for employees, suppliers and the wider communities where it operates. Through local partnerships, workforce development and strategic investments, Spring Hotels is building a more sustainable hospitality model for the future.

Strong Local Partnerships Supporting Canary Islands Economy

A major part of Spring Hotels’ sustainability approach is its focus on strengthening local economic connections. Currently, around 91% of the company’s suppliers are based locally, allowing the group to support businesses across the Canary Islands while reducing dependence on external supply chains.

By working closely with regional suppliers, Spring Hotels contributes to economic stability and encourages the growth of local businesses. This approach also helps create a stronger tourism ecosystem where hotels, suppliers and communities benefit from shared development.

The company’s commitment reflects a broader shift within the hospitality industry, where responsible sourcing and community engagement are becoming essential elements of long-term success.

Creating Stable Employment Opportunities for Workers

Spring Hotels has also made significant progress in improving employment stability within the organisation. Nearly 75 employees who previously worked through temporary agency contracts have successfully transitioned into permanent roles with the company.

This move represents an important step towards providing greater job security, stronger career opportunities and improved workplace confidence for employees. Permanent employment allows team members to build long-term careers while helping the company retain experienced professionals.

The initiative demonstrates Spring Hotels’ belief that sustainable tourism depends not only on protecting destinations but also on investing in the people who deliver guest experiences every day.

Employee Satisfaction Highlights Strong Workplace Culture

Alongside employment improvements, Spring Hotels continues to focus on employee wellbeing and engagement. Recent feedback shows that overall employee satisfaction has reached 79.5%, reflecting a positive working environment across the organisation.

Furthermore, 81% of employees reported feeling well integrated into the Spring Hotels team. The results underline the company’s efforts to create a workplace culture based on inclusion, collaboration and shared goals.

Strong employee engagement has become increasingly important in the hospitality sector, where motivated teams play a vital role in maintaining service quality and delivering memorable experiences for travellers.

Hotel Cleopatra Renovation Strengthens Tenerife Investment Plans

Looking ahead, Spring Hotels is preparing for another important stage in its development strategy with the planned refurbishment of Hotel Cleopatra in Playa de las Américas, Tenerife.

The renovation forms part of the group’s wider investment programme designed to modernise its hotel portfolio and enhance facilities for future guests. Through continued upgrades, Spring Hotels aims to improve the quality of its properties while maintaining Tenerife’s appeal as a leading international holiday destination.

The project reflects the company’s confidence in the long-term potential of the Canary Islands tourism market and its commitment to maintaining high standards across its resorts.

Employee Housing Project Addresses Accommodation Challenges

Beyond hotel renovations, Spring Hotels is taking action to address one of the major challenges affecting tourism workers: access to affordable housing.

The company has invested in the purchase of two residential buildings that will provide 110 homes for employees. The initiative is designed to support staff wellbeing while helping reduce housing pressures that can make recruitment and workforce retention more difficult.

Providing accommodation solutions for employees represents a forward-thinking approach that strengthens the company’s ability to attract and retain talent. It also reinforces Spring Hotels’ commitment to creating sustainable working conditions within the hospitality sector.

Building a More Responsible Future for Tourism

Through sustainable financing goals, local partnerships, employee development and infrastructure investment, Spring Hotels is shaping a responsible growth strategy that benefits both the business and the Canary Islands community.

The company’s actions demonstrate how modern hospitality businesses can achieve commercial success while maintaining a strong commitment to social responsibility. With continued investment in people, properties and local relationships, Spring Hotels is positioning itself for sustainable growth in the years ahead.

Villarroya added:

“The progress we have made over the past year gives us a strong platform for the future. Our focus is now on continuing to invest in our portfolio, beginning with the refurbishment of Hotel Cleopatra, while building on the operational excellence that has underpinned our progress so far.”
