British tourists planning to visit Greece this week have been cautioned by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) about potential disruptions caused by ongoing strikes in the country. The FCDO issued an update advising UK travellers that transport and healthcare services may be impacted due to the industrial action.

The strike, which began at midnight and is scheduled to last until midnight on September 21, has prompted concerns of possible disruptions to public transport and health services. Ferries may be affected, and several airports may experience closures. Travellers scheduled to journey by sea or air on September 21 have been advised to check with their respective transport providers for updates. Buses and Metro services in Greece may also be affected.

While hospital staff are participating in the strike, emergency services will continue to operate. Travelers with planned medical appointments on September 21 are encouraged to consult their respective hospitals directly for guidance. Protests are expected to take place across the country, with two major rallies planned in Athens.

The strike action is driven by public sector workers in Greece protesting the government’s proposed changes to labor laws in the country. In its general guidance regarding strikes and demonstrations in Greece, the FCDO advises travelers to avoid demonstrations whenever possible and to follow the advice provided by local authorities.

Given the potential disruptions caused by the strikes, British tourists planning trips to Greece during this period should stay informed about the situation, check with their travel providers for any itinerary changes, and exercise caution, especially when navigating areas where protests or demonstrations may occur.
