Ukraine’s Bold £1.2 Billion Ski Resort Set to Redefine Luxury Tourism Near the Polish Border

Despite the war in its east, Ukraine is building a £1.2 billion ski resort in Lviv, near Poland, featuring luxury hotels, ski slopes, and world-class facilities.

As Ukraine continues to defend its eastern front from the Russian invasion, the country is simultaneously working on an ambitious new project—a massive holiday resort on its western border.

The GORO Mountain ski resort, a £1.2 billion development, is under construction in the Lviv region, near the border with Poland. This sprawling project will feature 25 hotels with 5,500 rooms, covering 2,965 acres. It will include 41 ski slopes spanning 46.6 miles, 846 acres of snow-covered terrain, over 10 miles of ski lifts, two modern gondola lifts, and 11 chairlifts.

Construction began in October 2024, with the first phase slated for completion between 2028 and 2029. The entire project is expected to take 15 years to complete.

Funding for the resort comes from a mix of sources, Ukrainian company OKKO is expected to invest £400 million in the venture.

In addition to the hotels, the development will include various recreational facilities such as spas, swimming pools, restaurants, and dedicated spaces for children and business events.

The GORO Mountain Resort project was first proposed in 2017 and was initially scheduled to start in spring 2022. However, construction was delayed due to the Russian invasion.

OKKO Group, Ukraine’s largest network of gas stations, is leading the project alongside globally recognized experts. Partners include ILF Group, renowned for their contributions to ski resort developments like the Remarkables in New Zealand and Austria’s largest resorts, such as Sölden and Kitzbühel.

Despite ongoing challenges, Ukraine’s west is focusing on long-term growth and development, symbolizing resilience and a vision for the future.
