The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is set to make a prominent appearance at the FITUR 2024 travel and tourism expo in Madrid from January 23 to 26. This year, the event proudly partners with Ecuador, showcasing it as the focal country. FITUR 2024 stands as a premier platform for pioneering innovation and fostering cooperative efforts in the world of tourism.
Marking the year’s inaugural significant tourism gathering, the UNWTO aims to spotlight the development of investment opportunities and the fortification of global partnerships. Key initiatives by the UNWTO at this event include:
Investment Initiatives: The organization will spearhead essential investment forums, notably featuring an “Invest in Zambia” session. Alongside the Investment Bank for Latin America (CAF), it will also debut its “Investment Guidelines for Ecuador” and “Morocco Investment Guidelines.” These initiatives aim to illuminate investment possibilities in these areas.
Focus on Sustainable Development and Climate Action: The UNWTO is set to convene a session of the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability, addressing the sustainability hurdles faced by the global tourism industry. Additionally, it will host a gathering for signatories of the Glasgow Declaration, reiterating its dedication to tackling climate-related challenges within the tourism sector.
Enhancing Coordination and Collaboration: At FITUR, UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili plans to engage in bilateral discussions with Tourism Ministers from various member countries. These meetings are intended to cultivate cooperation and reinforce partnerships towards a sustainable global tourism future.
