The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is collaborating with Thassos Municipality in Greece to facilitate the recovery of the island’s tourism sector.

In a recent statement, the UNWTO has also emphasised that there will be an overall evaluation of the marketing campaigns implemented for Thasos tourism in recent years, drawing essential knowledge to guide future efforts.

Then, a new marketing action plan will be developed together as well based on the results of the evaluation, Schengen Visa reports.

Thassos has an extraordinary natural landscape and lies in the northern part of the Aegean Sea.

It also serves as an enchanting island for a quiet family vacation, thanks to its abundant historical sites and scenic wonders.

Last year, tourist accommodation on the island of Thassos reached full occupancy, reaching a total of 100 per cent capacity. As a result, the number of arrivals to the island has surpassed even the previous high records set in 2019.

Romanians account for a significant number of visitors in Thassos, up to 40 per cent of the total tourist flow that Thassos experienced during last year.

A historically strong month for Thassos has been August 2022, which witnessed a high number of visitors from the Balkan and Central European countries until the reopening of schools.

During this time, there was an increase in tourist arrivals, about ten to 15 per cent higher than in the same period in 2018 and 2019.

Moreover, Thassos is one of the most attractive islands in the Aegean Sea. Throughout the year, Thassos boasts abundant flora and fauna, pristine waters, a deep history and a vibrant culture, offering a variety of activities for tourists.

Nature and sports enthusiasts are drawn to Thassos, finding pleasure in activities such as swimming, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, spearfishing, boat excursions, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, bird watching, eco-tourism, 4×4 adventures and a lot of other options.

Thassos has also gained fame for its delicious seafood, offering a varied selection ranging from sardines, anchovies and prawns to sea carp, mullet, squid and octopus.

Furthermore, the hills, streams and green landscapes of the island offer a wide variety of meat offerings.

It also possesses a mild climate characterised by frequent sunshine throughout the year, featuring pleasantly cool summers and relatively mild winters.

The average annual temperature stands at 17.2 degrees Celsius, while summer warmth remains mild, with average temperatures not exceeding 24 degrees Celsius.
