UNWTO partners with Global Tourism Economy Forum

Assembling around the subject – Destination 2030: Unlocking the Power of Tourism for Business and Development, the landmark edition of the Forum attracted several government representatives, destinations and business. With the recently-released UNWTO data emphasizing a revival to 82% of the levels of pre-pandemic times international arrivals, the Forum aimed on making sure that tourism transformation progresses in close association with the rapid recovery of the sector.


GTEF 2023 brought the potential of tourism to balance the planet’s need of people while at the same time contributing to wealth and affluence. UNWTO in Macau highlighted the significance of public-private collaborations for delivering positive and long-lasting changes at the same time setting out tourism’s main priorities in the years ahead.


China between 2018 and 2022, attracted the highest number of FDI projects of tourism, as per the data from UNWTO and fDi Intelligence, with almost 15% of the total market share of the Pacific and Asian region. During this time, global investors declared a total of 2,415 tourism greenfield FDI projects in the tourism group, with total capital investment of USD 175.5 billion. Of these, in hotel infrastructure around 66 % were found, in technology almost 16 % and 9 % in tourism entertainment.
