UNWTO at the Sustainable Social Tourism Summit, welcomed new sophisticated participants to the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. To this landmark declaration, the Secretariats of State for Tourism of Queretaro, Ciudad de Mexico, Guerrero, Nuevo Leon, Quintana Roo, all signed up designed to lead tourism to Net-Zero emissions by 2050.

At the COP27 United Nations climate change meeting, they connected with the Secretariat of State of Tourism of Guanajuato which signed up in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Mr. Juan José Álvarez Brunel, the Secretary of State of Tourism of Guanajuato, heads the Sustainability Coordination of the National Association of Secretaries of tourism of Mexico and headed the debate related to climate action
in tourism at sub-national level from the time it became a signatory.

Mr. Juan José Álvarez Brunel, said that he immensely appreciates the help of his counterparts who are working for tourism and the pledge to start climate change actions through the Glasgow Declaration. They have the integrity to have the UNWTO’s help and support in this important event.

A new round of private sector stakeholders, during the summit, were also greeted as signatories of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative. It’s yet another lighthouse effort led by the United Nations Environment Program and UNWTO together.
