Cape Town International Airport Poised for International Flight Increase during 2026 Spring As Airlines Boost Capacity The increase in capacity will boost the connection between South Africa’s prime tourist destination and important markets around Europe, the Middle East, and the Indian Ocean. “A significant number of the world’s major airlines are adding flights to Cape Town, further enhancing access from a range of markets and offering travelers more choices for holidays, business travel, and other long-haul trips. These additional seats to the city will further reinforce Cape Town’s standing as one of Africa’s premier international travel hubs” saidWesgro.

It comes as figures reflect a growing demand for international travel.

Tourism performance metrics from Wesgro revealed the robust international passenger movement during July 2026.“ Figures released from Wesgro demonstrate substantial increases in international passenger movements at Cape Town International Airport this July. According to our Tourism and Trade data, Cape Town saw an increase of 10 percent for international passenger traffic compared to the previous year,” Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, said. “The figures showed international two-way passengers at 242,077 for July 2026, an important indicator of the success of the marketing and investment promotion initiatives for the city.

International traffic is of huge significance for Cape Town, and growth in this sector strengthens our local economy and supports job creation.”

The performance of domestic traffic was fuelled by the local holiday season as well as improved conditions for travelers. There was a rise of 1 percent for two-way domestic passenger traffic for the city at 615,536.

European Airlines Increase Cape Town Services Ahead of Peak Travel Season

The biggest increase in connectivity is coming from European airlines preparing for higher demand during the spring and summer travel seasons.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has expanded its Amsterdam–Cape Town service from daily operations to 10 weekly flights from 31 August 2026. The additional frequencies provide more flexibility for travellers connecting through Amsterdam to destinations across Europe and beyond.

Edelweiss Air is also returning with its seasonal Zurich–Cape Town route from 5 September 2026. The service strengthens links between South Africa and Switzerland, offering another option for European travellers visiting the Western Cape.

Norse Atlantic Airways will begin a new seasonal direct service between London Gatwick and Cape Town from 10 September 2026. The route adds more direct access from the United Kingdom, one of Cape Town’s important visitor markets.

Condor will restart its Frankfurt–Cape Town non-stop seasonal service from 17 September 2026. The route will improve direct connectivity between Germany and South Africa during a period when travel demand traditionally increases.

Air France will resume its Paris Charles de Gaulle–Cape Town seasonal operation from 23 September 2026. The airline will also extend the operating period, providing travellers with more opportunities to visit the city throughout the season.

Turkish Airlines and Airlink Expand Cape Town Regional Connections

Connectivity between Cape Town and international markets will also improve through additional services from Turkish Airlines and regional carrier Airlink.

Turkish Airlines will increase its Istanbul–Cape Town route from seven weekly flights to 10 weekly services in October 2026. The expanded schedule will provide stronger connections through Istanbul, a major international aviation hub linking Africa with Europe, Asia and other regions.

For travellers from Asia, the Middle East and parts of Europe, increased Turkish Airlines capacity will create more convenient connection opportunities to Cape Town.

Airlink will introduce two new direct routes from Cape Town during October 2026, connecting the city with Mauritius and Zanzibar.

The new services will create additional holiday options for travellers seeking Indian Ocean island destinations while also strengthening regional tourism links between Southern Africa and East Africa.
