Amid mounting global apprehensions over climate change, Spain is witnessing a rapid surge in Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption, particularly in transportation hubs like airports. In response, Valencia Airport has joined forces with EVB, a subsidiary of Beny specializing in smart charging solutions, to introduce a cutting-edge charging infrastructure. The initiative features 80 AC EV chargers and 4 DC EV chargers strategically positioned across the airport premises, providing convenient charging options to travelers. This collaboration not only revitalizes the airport’s operations but also marks a significant step forward in promoting electric mobility in Spain.

Project Details:

Location: Valencia, Spain.

Products: The project incorporates 4 DC EV chargers (model BADC82-D) and 80 AC EV chargers (model BCPC-D2N-P), offering a versatile range of charging options to accommodate both rapid and slow energy replenishment needs.

Outcomes: The seamless installation, testing, and operation of the charging station have significantly elevated service standards at the airport. Chargers are strategically distributed across the parking lot, ensuring easy access for users and fostering environmentally conscious travel.

Valencia Airport Overview:

Situated in the bustling city of Valencia, the airport serves as a crucial international gateway, handling substantial passenger traffic and logistical operations. Recent data from Aena reveals impressive figures, with 9.95 million passenger movements, 82,000 aircraft operations, and 13.65 million tons of cargo throughput recorded in 2023. With the increasing popularity of EVs, there’s a growing demand for parking and charging facilities at the airport. To meet these evolving needs, airport management is proactively upgrading charging infrastructure to enhance user experience and accommodate shifting preferences.

Charging Needs:

Driven by factors like convenience, cost-effectiveness, and environmental concerns, more EV drivers are choosing to park and charge their vehicles at the airport. Parking durations typically fall into three categories:

  1. Long-term parking: Catering to travelers embarking on extended trips, lasting from a few days to several weeks.
  2. Short-term parking: Primarily for drop-offs, pick-ups, and brief visits to the airport.
  3. Other durations: Accommodating airport personnel during their working hours.

EVB Solutions:

The EVB team collaborated closely with airport authorities to develop tailored charging solutions catering to diverse user groups:

Accomplishments:

Following the deployment of the charging station at Valencia Airport, frequent travelers by plane expressed their satisfaction, stating, “With the installation of charging stations at the airport, my range anxiety is eliminated, knowing that my car will be fully charged upon my return from business trips. Additionally, I can conveniently utilize the fast chargers to recharge my car when dropping off family members at the airport.”

This project represents a significant triumph, meeting user needs, promoting sustainability, bolstering company prestige, and providing invaluable lessons for future ventures in EV charger projects. As the electric vehicle sector advances, EVB reaffirms its dedication to partnering with additional businesses, consistently delivering cutting-edge solutions, and guaranteeing users globally enjoy ever more convenient and effective charging experiences.
