Santiago, Dominican Republic – Arajet, the national airline of the Dominican Republic, has officially welcomed its sixteenth aircraft, named “Pico Diego de Ocampo”, at Cibao International Airport, signalling a major advancement in the expansion of the country’s air network throughout the Americas. Alongside this milestone, the airline announced plans to commence regular flight operations to and from Santiago beginning in 2027, further strengthening regional and international connectivity.

The aircraft pays homage to the Pico Diego de Ocampo Natural Monument, a prominent landmark located between Santiago and Puerto Plata provinces. As one of the most recognisable peaks in the Northern Mountain Range, this protected area is celebrated for its ecological importance, water conservation efforts, biodiversity, and role in climate regulation. By choosing this name, Arajet is not only showcasing the nation’s natural treasures but also underlining its dedication to environmental awareness and sustainable tourism.

Arajet’s fleet expansion reflects a clear strategy to intertwine the country’s aviation growth with its cultural and natural heritage. Each new aircraft in the fleet carries a name that highlights the Dominican Republic’s historical and environmental significance, reinforcing the airline’s position as an ambassador for national pride and tourism promotion. The “Pico Diego de Ocampo” joins an already modern, fuel-efficient fleet designed to meet increasing passenger demand and offer travellers seamless connectivity across the Caribbean, North America, and Latin America.

The induction ceremony at Cibao International Airport brought together key leaders from Arajet, including José Clase, Vice Chairman of the Board, and board members Ricardo Fondeur and Juan Ureña. During the event, Arajet’s Chief Communications Officer, Manuel Luna, highlighted that welcoming this aircraft represents a pivotal achievement in the airline’s ongoing growth strategy. He underlined that the new addition will not only enhance domestic routes but also expand international linkages, contributing to the Dominican Republic’s standing as a regional tourism and air travel hub.

With Santiago designated as a central hub for the airline’s upcoming 2027 operations, Arajet aims to increase flight frequency, improve connectivity to major Caribbean and American cities, and provide travellers with reliable and modern air travel options. This move aligns with broader national objectives to bolster tourism infrastructure, facilitate business travel, and stimulate local economic development. By connecting Santiago more efficiently with regional destinations, the airline is positioning the city as a key gateway for both leisure and corporate passengers.

The “Pico Diego de Ocampo” aircraft also embodies Arajet’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency. The modern design ensures reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions, reflecting a conscious effort to balance aviation growth with environmental responsibility. This strategy supports the airline’s long-term vision of delivering high-quality service while contributing positively to the preservation of the Dominican Republic’s natural landscapes and cultural landmarks.

Travel experts and local authorities have recognised Arajet’s efforts as a critical driver in elevating the country’s tourism profile. By naming aircraft after nationally significant landmarks, the airline draws attention to heritage sites while creating a memorable and culturally resonant travel experience for passengers. This initiative aligns with ongoing government and tourism board strategies to promote sustainable tourism and attract international visitors to lesser-explored regions.

As Arajet integrates the “Pico Diego de Ocampo” into its operational fleet, passengers can expect enhanced comfort, modern amenities, and seamless connections throughout the Dominican Republic and beyond. With Santiago becoming a central node in 2027, the airline’s expansion is set to offer both domestic and international travellers greater flexibility, faster travel times, and easier access to the Dominican Republic’s rich cultural and natural attractions.
