Victorias City in Negros Occidental is set to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 by granting free admission to women and girls at premier tourism destinations within the city. The Victorias Aquatic Center and the Gawahon Eco-Park have been identified as the sites where entrance fees will be waived in honour of the occasion.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez expressed his administration’s dedication to valuing the significant contributions made by women to the city’s growth and prosperity through a formal statement. He emphasized the importance of empowering women across different sectors and acknowledged their crucial role in fostering a dynamic community and securing the city’s future success.

Additionally, Mayor Benitez has called upon employees across various city government offices, national government agencies, and local barangay councils to partake in the celebrations. He has urged them to wear purple every Friday of March, aligning with National Women’s Month, to show support for women’s empowerment and gender equality.

As part of the month-long celebrations, the city government has also unveiled a unique initiative—an all-women cast rendition of the Philippine national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang.” This special version of the anthem will be featured at all official events and activities throughout March, further highlighting the city’s commitment to celebrating and empowering women.

This initiative by Victorias City not only underscores the city’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment but is also poised to have a positive impact on tourism. By offering free entrance to key tourist sites, the city is likely to attract more visitors, both local and from other regions, thereby enhancing the visibility of its cultural and natural attractions.

Moreover, the celebration of International Women’s Day through such inclusive activities promotes a positive image of Victorias City as a forward-thinking and inclusive destination, encouraging more tourists to explore what the city has to offer while recognizing the valuable contributions of women to society.
