Vietjet adds new flight route from Ho Chi Minh City with Xi’an

Following the initiation of routes to Shanghai and Chengdu, the budget airline Vietjet announced the launch of a new direct service connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Xi’an City, starting from April 29. This service will facilitate four round trips weekly, with departures from Ho Chi Minh City scheduled for every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 20:05 local time, arriving at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport at 01:30 the next day. Conversely, the return journeys from Xi’an will commence every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 02:30 local time, reaching Ho Chi Minh City at 06:25.

Xi’an, recognized as the historical capital of 13 dynasties in China and hailed as the cradle of Chinese civilization, plays a pivotal role in the airline’s network expansion. Its significance extends beyond its historical heritage, standing as the origin of the illustrious Silk Road which has historically bridged trade and cultural exchanges between Asia and Europe. The city is a custodian of numerous cultural gems, including the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, and Datang Furong Park, making it an essential destination for both history enthusiasts and casual travelers.

This move by Vietjet is anticipated to have a significant impact on the airline industry, especially from a global travel perspective. It not only augments the connectivity between Vietnam and China but also promotes cultural and trade exchanges along the historic Silk Road. The introduction of affordable, direct flights to Xi’an is likely to stimulate travel demand, foster tourism, and strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations, reinforcing the airline’s strategic position in expanding its international footprint.
