Vietjet Air has signed a preliminary agreement with Airbus for the acquisition of 20 A330-900 widebody planes. This agreement marks Vietjet’s inaugural venture into widebody aircraft procurement. The newly ordered planes are slated for deployment across the airline’s expanding long-haul network and for high-demand regional routes. This move will not only replace the airline’s existing fleet of leased A330-300s but also facilitate further growth in its route network.

Vietjet’s CEO, Dinh Viet Phuong, highlighted the significance of integrating the A330neo into their fleet, stating, “The A330neo represents a key investment in updating Vietjet’s fleet, bolstering our operational efficiency to advance our international service expansion ambitions. Its eco-friendly, next-gen design is in line with our commitment to sustainable growth and our ESG objectives, targeting carbon neutrality by 2050. The introduction of the A330neo will allow us to offer longer, better-equipped flights, superior service quality, and more competitive pricing to our passengers.” The A330neo is distinguished by its Airspace cabin, renowned for providing a superior travel experience, including enhanced comfort, ambiance, and design features such as increased personal space, larger overhead bins, innovative lighting, and the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity.

“We are excited to work with Vietjet on the next phase of the carrier’s expansion,” said Christian Scherer, CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business of Airbus. “The A330neo will enable the airline to achieve the lowest possible operating costs per seat and to continue to offer its customers the best possible value wherever they fly. It will also be the perfect complement to the A321XLRs already on order with the airline, as it spreads its wings to more far flung destinations.”

Equipped with the state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330-900 boasts an impressive range of 7,200 nm (13,300 km), enabling non-stop flights over extensive distances. As of January 2024, the A330 Family had garnered 1,771 confirmed orders from over 130 global customers.
