The City has recently made it known that the Durban Tourism Business Awards have progressed into their second phase, which notably includes the commencement of the public voting process. This crucial stage invites individuals to actively participate by voting for their preferred tourism services among the competition entries. The initiation of this phase encourages public involvement in celebrating and acknowledging the excellence within the local travel industry.

The commencement of voting was announced to have begun on Monday, March 11, with the window for casting votes set to close by midnight on Sunday, March 17. The City is calling upon the public to explore the comprehensive list of competition entries available online and to exercise their voting rights.

This initiative is aimed at recognizing and rewarding outstanding contributions to the tourism sector, with a dedicated webpage provided for the public to submit their votes at: https://durbantourismawards.com/.

The awards have been designed to cover a broad spectrum of categories, including but not limited to service excellence, sustainable development, entrepreneurship, and contributions by filmmakers, attracting around 144 entries in total. It’s noteworthy that the Exceptional Achievement Award remains an exception in the public voting process, designed to honor those businesses and products within the tourism sector that have achieved international acclaim, contributed to job creation, and played a significant role in attracting investments and visitors to the City.

Following the conclusion of the public voting, an extensive judging process will be undertaken for the nominated entities. This process will involve a panel of independent judges, all of whom are esteemed experts within the tourism industry, to ensure the integrity and fairness of the awards.

Part of this judging process will include on-site inspections of the top five nominees in each category, aiming to assess the impact and effectiveness of their tourism offerings thoroughly. The awards are set to reach their climax with a prestigious ceremony held at the iconic Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in mid-June, where winners will be celebrated and awarded cash and developmental prizes to further enhance their business ventures.

eThekwini Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, emphasized that these awards are among several initiatives by the City focused on investing in and elevating the local tourism industry. He highlighted the awards’ role in providing significant marketing exposure, thereby opening more opportunities for the winners and aiding in the sustainable growth of their businesses. The Mayor encouraged community participation in this commendable initiative by casting their votes.
