The River Revival Voucher program in South Australia has significantly boosted the economy of the Murray River regions, with a remarkable $10.7 million contribution so far. The second round was particularly impactful, generating over $7.6 million and resulting in 8,008 bookings across various tourism services like accommodations, experiences, houseboats, and guided tours.
This initiative has not only funneled essential funds into these areas but also attracted tourists who might not have visited otherwise. According to a survey by the South Australian Tourism Commission, the $750 houseboat voucher alone infused nearly $2.5 million into the regions. This voucher proved especially effective in drawing first-time visitors and larger groups, averaging around five or more people per booking.
Plans for the third and final round are now in place, aiming to extend support to these regions even outside the peak summer tourism season. This upcoming round will be open to South Australian residents, as well as those in neighboring Victorian and New South Wales border communities, with travel dates ranging from 22 February to 30 June 2024.
An Expressions of Interest period for providers in the Riverland and Murray River, Lakes & Coorong regions will commence early in 2024. This voucher initiative is a key component of a larger $4.6 million tourism support package designed to aid communities affected by flooding.
