Walter Cho, chairman and chief executive of Korean Air will join as the new chairperson of SkyTeam alliance board.
At a meeting of the SkyTeam Alliance Board the appointment was endorsed and the board is comprised of the chief executives of the 19 member airlines. SkyTeam’s global strategy is overseen by the board.
Over the past 20 years Korean Air has been instrumental in shaping the SkyTeam.
Along with other members Cho will be playing an active role as SkyTeams keeps growing from an established network to a digitally connected, customer-centric alliance.
An executive board has been introduced to the governance structure of the SkyTeam
Dong Bo, chief marketing officer, China Eastern Airlines was appointed the chairperson of this board earlier this month.
The executive board will be supporting SkyTeam’s focus on customer experience enabled by technology. It has senior business leaders from each of the member airline who will be responsible for implanting the alliance’s strategy.
Kristin Colvile, SkyTeam chief executive said that SkyTeam is entering the next generation of its life, these two appointments reflect our members’ commitment and broader engagement in creating the leading alliance of the future, with a significant focus on digitally connecting airlines to create an effortless and seamless customer experience, enabled by proprietary technology.
Cho will replace the chairperson of the alliance board, Michael Wisbrun, who has held the position for more than three years. His role will be effective from today.
