Warminster attempts to bring in more tourists. The town council is attempting to attract more visitors and tourists with updated signs and information.

Warminster’s brown tourism signs have been updated and replaced with five new ones.

The signs, on the edge of the Wiltshire town, promote the town’s famous Athenaeum Theatre, which is more than 100 years old.

The signs also highlight the historic market town, the Lake Pleasure Grounds and other historic buildings.

Jon Ellis is the chair of the Athenaeum, believed to be Wiltshire’s oldest theatre, “We’ve been on this site from late 1800s,” he said.

“We’ve had a whole load of famous people that have been here including Oscar Wilde, Pam Ayers, Charlie Chester, Harry Corbett , Sooty and Emmeline Pankhurst.”

Tourism is a massive boost to the local economy in the summer months and the council wants to do all it can to attract visitors to Warminster.

Warminster Town Council wants to encourage passing visitors using the A350 to stop off and use facilities and services in the town centre and also maintain pride in the town.

The signs have been paid for by a grant from Wiltshire Council.
