Denver International Airport has been tirelessly working in anticipation of a severe winter storm expected to hit the area, issuing warnings to travelers about potential delays and cancellations spanning from Wednesday to Friday.

On the eve of the storm, the airport’s operations remained largely unaffected, with the storm predicted to deliver significant snowfall to Colorado, including up to 16 inches in Denver and up to 20 inches in the Foothills areas.

The airport has assured that its snow teams are on high alert, prepared to clear runways and plow roads around the terminal to minimize disruption.

Ahead of the storm, three of Colorado’s largest airline carriers—Delta, United, and Southwest Airlines—had already issued travel advisories, urging passengers to stay informed about their flights.

Both Delta and United, along with Southwest Airlines, had disseminated information to their flyers by Tuesday morning, emphasizing the importance of checking flight statuses, allowing extra time for travel to and from the airport, and considering the use of public transportation if possible. A traveler, expressing concern about attending a wedding, shared their decision to alter travel plans upon realizing the imminent storm threat.

By Wednesday’s end, Denver International Airport reported a total of 788 flight cancellations and 15 delays, highlighting the storm’s impact on air travel. Furthermore, the Colorado Department of Transportation has strongly recommended that residents avoid travel during the storm, advising them to stay indoors and off the roads for their safety.

This approach underscores the collective effort by airport authorities, airlines, and state officials to mitigate the storm’s impact on travel and ensure the safety of both travelers and residents in the face of severe winter weather conditions.
