Wizz Air has now transported over 70 million passengers from London Luton Airport (LLA), celebrating this significant achievement as the 70 millionth passenger boarded a flight from Tirana to LLA. As the primary airline operating out of LLA, Wizz Air boasts a fleet of 11 aircraft and runs 50 daily round-trip flights to 60 destinations across 28 countries. In addition to its regular schedule, the airline is offering special flights to Germany for the UEFA European Football Championships this summer, catering to England fans eager to cheer on their team.

Jonathan Rayner, Chief Commercial Officer at London Luton Airport, commented: “This is a fantastic achievement for Wizz Air at London Luton Airport and the latest key milestone in a partnership that has continued to flourish since their first flight from Katowice in Poland almost 20 years ago. Since then, London Luton Airport and Wizz have worked closely to achieve impressive, sustained growth in passenger numbers and an ever-greater choice in destinations, as well as collaborating on new solutions that support the airport’s commitment to sustainable aviation.  We look forward to another busy year as we continue to focus on delivering a simple and friendly passenger experience and the next big milestone in our partnership.”

Zsazsa Trubek, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air, said: “London Luton Airport is a special place for us. It is home to our UK head office and is the airport that we operate the majority of our UK flights from. We are delighted to celebrate over 70 million people flying with us to and from this base. This milestone could not have been achieved without the dedication, integrity, and passion from our staff. We look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with the airport and welcoming even more passengers on board.”

In a strategic move announced in July 2023, Wizz Air revealed plans to transition London Luton Airport into an exclusive A321neo hub by 2025. The A321neo planes, seating 239 passengers, promise a nearly 50% reduction in noise, 20% less fuel consumption, and a 50% cut in nitrogen oxide emissions compared to their predecessors, marking a significant step towards sustainability.

Wizz Air, which will mark its 20th anniversary this year, employs around 600 staff at its LLA base, underscoring its substantial contribution to local employment and the aviation industry at large.
