WTM London, renowned as the most influential event in the travel industry, is shaping its Technology Summit this year around the pivotal role of technology in supporting suppliers and sellers amid ongoing disruption and emerging challenges. Organised by RX, the summit will take place on Wednesday, 5th November, on the Purple Stage, starting at 10:45 AM. Spanning three hours, the event will feature a diverse group of technology leaders, from top executives to entrepreneurs, along with experts in law, investment, and research.

Aligned with WTM London’s overarching theme of “Reimagining Travel in a Changing World,” the summit is organised into twelve carefully curated sessions. These are designed by Timothy O’Neil-Dunne, WTM’s technology advisor and a respected figure in the industry. O’Neil-Dunne, a founding member of Expedia’s management team in the 1990s, is now a principal at T2Impact Ltd, a consulting firm specialising in aviation, travel, and tourism.

A key highlight will be the 20-minute conversation, titled “Connected Futures: Tech, Data, and the Power of eSIMs,” between Timothy O’Neil-Dunne and Pablo Gómez Fernandez-Quintanilla, CEO of Holafly, WTM London’s official Technology Partner. The session, scheduled for 1:50 PM on the Purple Stage, will delve into the evolving landscape of technology, data, and mobile connectivity.

The summit will also explore the ever-growing conversation around artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impact on the travel industry. One session will engage attendees in a lively debate about whether AI, despite its buzz, could pose challenges for the sector. Participants in this discussion will include Stephen Joyce from Prospect Group and Christian Watts from Magpie Travel.

AI will be a recurring topic throughout the summit. Rhys Griffiths and Farina Azam, partners at the travel law firm Fox Williams, will address the legal and regulatory implications of AI adoption in travel businesses. Additionally, Andreas Nau of Ennea Capital Partners and Min Liu from Cambon Partners will share insights from the investment sector on how AI-driven disruption is being handled.

In a dedicated session on AI’s influence on the travel agent profession, James Lever from DataArt and Gulce Rozenveld from Oojo.com will explore how AI is reshaping the role of travel agents. AI is also transforming the way travellers plan their trips, with video content becoming a crucial factor in decision-making. Sally Bunnell from NaviSavi will discuss how this trend is influencing the industry.

The growing importance of data in the age of AI will also be covered. Dave Goodger from Tourism Economics will explain how travel companies can use travel-specific insights combined with economic data to make better decisions. Thomas Dillon from A3M and James Spalding from Trip.com Group will focus on balancing the demand for hyper-personalization with the need for strict data privacy and security.

Payments, an area of continuous innovation, will also feature prominently at this year’s summit. A session will highlight the role of technology in driving payment innovations that help the travel industry thrive. Industry leaders such as James Lemon from Stripe, Will Plummer from Trust My Group, Livia Vite from actuary.aero, and Qais Amori from Almosafer will offer varied perspectives on the evolving payment landscape, including both B2B and B2C sectors.

Airlines are set to have a more significant presence at WTM London this year, especially at the Technology Summit. Filip Filipov from OAG will present a quick snapshot of key airline and flight data trends, while Amanda Campbell from T2RL and Nadine Wood, former of Qantas, will discuss the evolution of low-cost carriers and the lessons legacy carriers can draw from their success.

The summit will also feature Roman Townsend from Belvera Partners, who will showcase the latest advancements in artificial and virtual reality, demonstrating their potential in the travel sector.
