Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace recently hosted a distinguished international panel comprising 27 judges, among whom were seven esteemed Masters of Wine. This marked the inception of the Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at recognizing premium Chinese wines. With the backing of the Macao Government Tourism Office, this event is poised to become the world’s foremost Chinese wine competition of global standards. The winners will be unveiled during an awards ceremony scheduled to take place at Wynn Palace on April 13.

In conjunction with the awards program, from March 1 to 5, wine enthusiasts flocked to Macau to partake in a series of exclusive wine dinners and Masterclasses led by renowned wine experts from around the globe.

Ms. Linda Chen, President, Vice Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited said, “Wynn is honored to welcome a group of globally-acclaimed wine experts on the Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards judging panel and support us with this prestigious event. Not only will the awards provide an unprecedented opportunity to showcase premium Chinese wines on a global stage, and celebrate the excellence of the Chinese wine industry, but they also reinforce Macau’s position as a UNESCO-designated ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’.”

Mr. Cheng Wai Tong, Deputy Director of Macao Government Tourism Office said at the event, “The Macao Government Tourism Office is delighted to see the industry actively organizing diverse events and developing unique tourism products and services, providing travelers with a variety of experiences.”

The Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards initiative is geared towards offering strategic support to Chinese winemakers, aiming to bolster their presence in upscale markets. Award-winning wines will receive the prestigious “Wynn Signature Award” label and will be extended invitations to participate in national masterclasses, hospitality events, media tastings, and significant banquets.

A panel of global wine experts meticulously assessed and ranked over 750 submissions sourced from nearly 200 of China’s premium wineries, all vying for the coveted Wynn Signature Best Wine of China Trophy. Winemakers are also contending for additional trophies that highlight the diverse varietal expressions and regional characteristics found within China.

The esteemed panel of judges comprises Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, winemakers, educators, journalists, hoteliers, and wine buyers. Notable figures include Eddie McDougall, serving as the Chair of Judges, Chris Ashton as the Chief of Stewards, and three Vice Chairs who are highly esteemed Masters of Wine: Fongyee Walker MW, Gus Zhu MW, and Andrew Caillard MW. They lead a distinguished lineup of judges, including Kenichi Ohashi MW, Julien Boulard MW, Tim Triptree MW, Jane Anson, Ronny Lau, Simon Tam, Erin Larkin, Reeze Choi, Xiao Pi, David Xing, Della Tang, Janet Wang, and many others.

Wynn ensures the competition adopts an authoritative and professional evaluation system, enlisting the assistance of a professional external auditing firm to verify the accuracy of the judges’ scores and conduct random background inspections of the competing wineries. This initiative has established an unparalleled international exchange platform for participating wines.

Beyond their judging responsibilities, the esteemed experts also hosted eight exclusive wine events at Wynn Palace and Wynn Macau. Over the course of four days, wine enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and industry professionals were treated to a series of Masterclasses, specialty wine dinners, forums, and presentations by some of the world’s most renowned wine experts.
