The 1st Navicap Challenge – Trophée Elena Sivoldaeva, organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco, successfully concluded in brilliant sunshine on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event aimed to promote sailing for all and coincided with the announcement of a national inclusion initiative for people with disabilities in Monaco on December 5th.

Bernard d’Alessandri, General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco, emphasized that the 1st Navicap Challenge – Trophée Elena Sivoldaeva was a significant event and a prime example of the club’s efforts to make sailing accessible to all. He adds, “We want to offer everyone the opportunity to experience the freedom one feels when at sea”.

As an integral part of the collective ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach, the regatta attracted 60 sailors from various European countries. The success of the event has led to the announcement of a second edition, scheduled to take place from November 20th to December 1st, 2024.

The 1st Navicap Challenge – Trophée Elena Sivoldaeva featured around 30 teams sailing Hansa 303s, designed to accommodate sailors of all abilities, including those with disabilities. The event, held at the Yacht Club de Monaco, saw teams of two compete in nine races. In the gold group, victory went to Anne Marteau and Gaspard Laguibaut from Régates de Royan. In the silver group, Virginie Lavigne and Tobias Thuiller from CEV Berk secured the top spot. The prize-giving ceremony included an exchange of flags between the Hansa class and Yacht Club de Monaco.

“It was truly a victory for everyone. Thank you to the YCM for hosting it so well,” said Elena Sivoldaeva, a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco. The event began to take shape when Elena Sivoldaeva donated two Hansa 303 boats to the Club, and recently an Echo 90, a 9m twin rudder catamaran sailing boat. The Echo 90 officially joined the Monaco fleet after being christened in a ceremony attended by Bernard d’Alessandri, Elena Sivoldaeva, and Jacques Pastor, responsible for sport at Monaco’s City Hall.
