Thailand is widening its portfolio in terms of MICE tourism due to the interconnection of business trips, regional business events, and international aviation links that are creating new relationships between meetings and leisure activities. Bangkok is still one of the important gateway cities, while Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Pattaya are included in a broader network of cities for conferences, corporate events, and incentive programs. The list of priorities that the TCEB has developed for 2026 includes destination competitiveness, sustainability, innovation and data. The existing strategy of the organisation covers MICE city development and professionalism of MICE industry personnel in different regions of Thailand.

Regional Cities Gain More Attention

Thailand’s MICE map extends well beyond Bangkok. Chiang Mai offers a combination of conference facilities, mountain scenery, cultural attractions and wellness experiences, giving business groups opportunities to add leisure activities around formal programmes.

Khon Kaen provides a different setting in northeastern Thailand, with convention facilities, local food experiences and access to the wider Isan region. Pattaya, meanwhile, combines established hotels and meeting venues with beaches, restaurants and entertainment, allowing corporate groups to build leisure time around their event schedules.

TCEB’s MICE One-Stop Service lists meeting facilities across several Thai regions, including Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Chon Buri, reflecting the range of locations available for business events.

For corporate travellers, the appeal of these destinations is increasingly tied to what happens outside the meeting room. A conference programme can be followed by a cultural visit, a regional food experience, a wellness session or an outdoor activity, creating a broader itinerary without requiring delegates to travel to another country.

Bangkok Gains a New Air Link

Bangkok has also gained additional international connectivity with the launch of Riyadh Air’s direct Riyadh-Bangkok service in September.

The inaugural flight arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on 3 September 2026. The service initially operates three times a week and is scheduled to increase to daily flights in October, adding approximately 3,840 inbound seats per month at the initial frequency. The route is operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

The new connection provides travellers from Saudi Arabia with a direct route to Bangkok, while also strengthening links between the two markets for tourism, trade and business travel. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has identified Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East as important long-haul markets, with demand extending across family travel, shopping, wellness, medical tourism and leisure.

For MICE planners, direct air access can simplify delegate movements. Travellers arriving in Bangkok can also connect with other Thai destinations, making the capital a practical starting point for corporate itineraries that include regional meetings or incentive programmes.

Business Trips Meet Wellness

Wellness is becoming a more visible part of Thailand’s corporate travel offering. Rather than keeping business programmes entirely within conference halls, organisers are incorporating spa treatments, wellness sessions, Thai cuisine workshops and cultural activities into multi-day itineraries.

Thailand already has an established wellness tourism network, ranging from luxury resorts and spas to medical and holistic wellness facilities. For business groups, these experiences can be scheduled before or after meetings, creating additional opportunities to explore the destination.

Chiang Mai can pair meetings with traditional crafts, temples, local cuisine and mountain excursions. Bangkok offers rooftop dining, river experiences, shopping and wellness facilities, while Pattaya provides coastal activities alongside its conference infrastructure.

The result is a business trip that can include several different forms of travel within the same schedule.

Sustainability Becomes Part of Event Planning

Environmental considerations are also becoming more visible within Thailand’s MICE framework. TCEB’s sustainability programme focuses on economic, social and environmental development and promotes environmentally responsible events alongside support for local businesses and communities.

For event organisers, sustainability can involve practical decisions such as reducing waste, managing food consumption, selecting local suppliers and considering transportation requirements. These measures can also bring delegates closer to local communities and businesses during their stay.

The approach fits naturally with Thailand’s regional MICE expansion, where destinations outside Bangkok can offer local food, crafts, culture and community-based experiences as part of corporate programmes.

Travel Opportunities Spread Across Thailand

The evolving MICE landscape is offering more options for the integration of business travel with experiences at the destination. The delegates could come to Bangkok for a conference, then to Chiang Mai for the incentives program, or have time off from their business visit to some other part of the country. This is especially important for international visitors who would have to travel far away to come to the meetings anyway. Adding the leisure component allows turning the short conference trip into something longer and more interesting, with more money spent on hotels, restaurants, attractions, transport, and experience providers. The innovative approach, along with the use of data in the planning of events in Thailand in 2026, is also stressed by the MICE strategy in this country, where the MICE infrastructure still includes several regions and different types of events. With a growing number of international flights and attention paid to regional destinations, the landscape of business trips to Thailand becomes more diverse. While Bangkok still serves as one of the main gates to Thailand, the trip itself could involve beaches, mountains, culture, cuisine, wellness, and even meeting and conference programs.
