“Zayed Airport becomes global hub of heritage, innovation and green travel”: Elena Sorlini, Abu Dhabi Airports

His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor of Special Affairs at the Presidential Court and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports’ Board of Directors, recently attended a significant ceremony to rename Abu Dhabi International Airport to Zayed International Airport. This rebranding honors the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, reflecting his legacy and the rich Emirati culture and heritage. The event marked a new chapter for Abu Dhabi’s aviation sector, showcasing the airport’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and world-class traveler experiences.

The renaming event was a grand affair, attended by key stakeholders, partners, and airport staff, featuring cultural performances and digital showcases. The new brand identity draws inspiration from Abu Dhabi’s landscape, history, and the architectural design of Terminal A. Symbols such as a traditional dhow boat, a date palm tree, the desert sun, the Qasr Al Hosn Fort, and Terminal A itself have been creatively incorporated into the new logo, inviting travelers to partake in the story of Abu Dhabi.

Elena Sorlini, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, highlighted the successful operations of Terminal A and the seamless, authentic traveler experience it offers, deeply rooted in Emirati hospitality. The airport, with its state-of-the-art facilities, including biometric technologies and extensive retail and dining options, prioritizes passenger comfort and convenience.

Since becoming fully operational, Terminal A has significantly contributed to the airport’s capacity, handling millions of passengers and connecting to numerous global destinations. This expansion has positioned Zayed International Airport as a leading hub for international travel, further enhancing Abu Dhabi’s role in global trade, tourism, and commerce.

The rebranding of Abu Dhabi International Airport to Zayed International Airport is not just a name change but a tribute to the visionary leadership of Sheikh Zayed, aiming to inspire future generations and continue his legacy of connecting the UAE with the world.
