Minor Hotels has announced the appointment of Jason Marques as the new General Manager of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, one of Lisbon’s most prestigious luxury hotels. He will officially assume the role on 1 September 2026, bringing extensive international hospitality expertise to the historic property.

With more than 20 years of experience in the luxury hospitality sector, Marques has built a strong career managing high-end hotels and resorts across Europe, Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East. Before taking on his new position at Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, he served as General Manager of Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort for two years, where he contributed to the property’s operational and guest experience development.

In his new role, Marques will oversee the continued growth and evolution of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, focusing on enhancing the hotel’s reputation as one of Lisbon’s leading luxury destinations. His leadership will aim to preserve the hotel’s heritage while introducing new opportunities for innovation, service excellence and memorable guest experiences.

Tivoli Avenida Liberdade holds a special position in Portuguese hospitality history. Opened in 1933 as the first Tivoli hotel, the property marked the beginning of the Tivoli brand and has remained a symbol of elegance and refined hospitality for more than nine decades. Today, the hotel is part of The Leading Hotels of the World and continues to represent the brand’s commitment to exceptional service, distinctive design and timeless sophistication.

Under Jason Marques’ leadership, Tivoli Avenida Liberdade will continue building on its historic legacy while exploring new ways to strengthen its position in Lisbon’s luxury hospitality landscape. The hotel will focus on delivering elevated experiences for guests while maintaining the unique character and traditions that have shaped its identity since its opening.

My ambition is to honour that legacy, working closely with the team to continue elevating the experience we offer our guests and reinforcing the standard of excellence for which the hotel is known,” said Jason Marques.

Marques started his hospitality journey in 2003 at Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Resort located in Portugal’s Algarve region, following the completion of his Sustainable Tourism qualification at INUAF – Instituto Superior Dom Afonso III.

His global hospitality career expanded in 2012 when he joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Algeria as Front Office Manager at Le Méridien Oran Hotel & Convention Centre. Through strong operational leadership and service expertise, he advanced to Director of Rooms & Green Belt before becoming Director of Rooms at Sheraton Club des Pins Hotel & Resort.

In 2016, Marques took his career to the Seychelles, where he was appointed Executive Assistant General Manager at Le Méridien Fisherman’s Cove. He later moved to the Maldives in 2018, assuming the role of Resort Manager at Constance Halaveli Maldives. Returning to the Seychelles in 2020, he played a key role in launching a new Marriott International resort, serving as both General Manager and Owner’s Representative during the opening phase.

Following his resort leadership experience, Marques joined Marriott International’s London-based corporate team as Senior Manager, Franchise Operations for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In this position, he managed operational performance across 116 hotels throughout Southern Europe, supporting franchise partners and driving service excellence.

In January 2024, Marques moved to Minor Hotels as General Manager of Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort, further strengthening his expertise in luxury hotel operations. With a career spanning multiple international markets and extensive experience in luxury hospitality management, he will now collaborate with the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade team to elevate guest experiences and continue strengthening the hotel’s position as one of Lisbon’s most recognised hospitality landmarks.
