Philippine authorities are looking at more international flight connections towards the fourth quarter of 2026, as Cebu Pacific plans an increase in its flight connectivity between Cebu, Clark and Manila towards cities in China, Vietnam, and Japan. This announcement was made by Cebu Pacific Airlines on 7 August, aiming to benefit tourists during the Christmas holidays at the end of the year. The increased flight connectivity will include re-establishing Cebu-Ho Chi Minh City flights, new flights to Shanghai and Nagoya, among others. This may help foreign tourists have more ways of reaching the Philippines as well as allowing Filipinos to reach other countries for their holiday destination without having to pass through the capital. However, it should be noted that the above timetable has undergone some modifications, and it is imperative for the tourist to check their flight availability prior to booking their connecting holiday trip.

Cebu Strengthens Its Position as an International Gateway

Cebu is central to the expansion, with new and returning services intended to connect the Central Visayas region more directly with East and Southeast Asia.

Cebu Pacific plans to resume direct flights between Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City on 26 October 2026, with three weekly services on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The connection offers travellers from Cebu direct access to Vietnam’s largest city, known for its food markets, museums, historic buildings and urban culture.

The airline also announced direct flights between Cebu and Shanghai, alongside a new Cebu-Nagoya route. The latest reported schedule has moved the planned Shanghai and Nagoya launches from November to December 2026. Travellers should therefore confirm the operating dates shown in the airline’s booking system rather than rely solely on the original announcement.

For visitors arriving in the Philippines, stronger links through Cebu may offer an alternative to transferring through Manila, depending on their origin, destination and available connections.

China and Japan Connections Expand Holiday Choices

Shanghai and Nagoya offer different travel experiences for visitors from the Philippines. Shanghai combines historic waterfront architecture, museums, shopping districts and contemporary attractions, while Nagoya provides access to Japanese cultural sites, regional cuisine and destinations in central Japan.

Cebu Pacific originally announced three weekly flights between Cebu and Shanghai, alongside four weekly services between Cebu and Nagoya. The revised launch timetable should be checked before travel plans are finalised.

The airline also announced the resumption of direct flights between Manila and Xiamen, China, initially planned for 23 November. A report published on 9 October indicated that the resumption had been withdrawn from that schedule, with a possible return no earlier than March 2027. Passengers should verify whether the route is available for their intended dates.

These changes illustrate why travellers need to distinguish between announced routes and flights that are open for booking. A planned service does not guarantee that a particular departure will operate.

Clark Adds Another Route to Vietnam

Clark International Airport is another focus of Cebu Pacific’s international expansion. The airline announced plans to resume direct flights between Clark and Hanoi from 19 November, with three weekly services.

The connection could provide travellers from Central Luzon with an alternative to travelling to Manila before flying internationally. Hanoi offers access to Vietnam’s historic Old Quarter, museums, local food markets and cultural landmarks. It also serves as a gateway for journeys to destinations such as Ha Long Bay, subject to onward transport arrangements.

For international tourists visiting the Philippines, additional services through Clark may create more itinerary choices. However, passengers should compare departure times, airport transfers and connecting flights before selecting a route.

What the Changes Mean for Philippine Island Holidays

The international expansion could also support tourism across the Philippines by improving access through Cebu and other regional gateways. Domestic connections remain important for visitors travelling to beach destinations and islands beyond the capital.

Boracay, known for White Beach and its coastal resorts, is generally reached through Caticlan Airport or Kalibo Airport, followed by ground and boat transfers where applicable. Bohol offers beaches, diving sites and inland attractions, including the Chocolate Hills. Siargao attracts surfers and visitors interested in island scenery, lagoons and outdoor activities.

These destinations are not automatically connected to every new international route. Travellers arriving in Cebu, Clark or Manila may still need a separate domestic flight or another transfer to reach their final destination.

Passengers should leave sufficient time between separately booked flights and confirm baggage arrangements, terminal details and onward transport. Weather conditions and local schedules can also affect island transfers, particularly during periods of heavy rain.

Booking Advice for the Fourth Quarter

However, the newly announced plans by Cebu Pacific have been subjected to new scheduling modifications and therefore visitors need to consider each destination separately. The booking schedule by the airline is the right place to learn about departures, the frequency of flights per week, prices and availability of seats for your intended destinations. The holidays at the end of the year may also require one to check accommodation facilities and other means of transportation within the country of travel. An international flight followed by an island flight that may not be scheduled may lead to extra expenses. The tourism industry in the country requires good access by international travellers as well as good connections within the country.
