Forecasters have warned that temperatures could plummet across the UK next week amid a sudden stratospheric warning of the Earth’s atmosphere.
According to the Met Office Tuesday onwards a phenomenon causing the stratosphere to heat up quickly will greatly increase the risk of wintry weather.
Further the warming is expected to occur between six and 30 miles into the atmosphere resulting a sharp spike in temperatures which will reach upto 50C and disrupt the jet stream.
There was a cold snap post the occurrences of the rare weather event earlier but considering the current situation the Met office was not sure how the atmosphere will react.
A spokesperson said that the there might be clearer, colder conditions but still wanted to wait and see how the atmosphere will respond.
There was a disruption of the jet stream in the previous years so they wanted to urge people to follow the forecast.
James Madden the forecaster mentioned that the February is shaping to be the coldest on record and the current mean Central England Temperature is around 1 C below-average for the month.
Scotland is on yellow warning for snow and ice currently .
