Marlon Abeyakoon appointed General Manager for Avani Fares Resort

Marlon Abeyakoon has been appointed as the General Manager for the Avani+ Fares Resort in Maldives. Marlon comes with an experience in hospitality industry spanning two decades with multiple international hotel brands across UAE, UK, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Fiji.

 

 

Scheduled to debut in 2021, the Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort is located in Maldives’ Baa Atoll. The resort features accommodation of approximately 200 rooms. The area is an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve that is home to unique species of marine, fauna, and flora. The property is operated by Minor Hotels. The recognised company currently owns and operates a portfolio of 145 hotels and serviced suites in operation under the Anantara, AVANI, PER AQUUM, Oaks, Tivoli, Elewana, Marriott, Four Seasons, St. Regis and Minor International brands. The new appointment comes at a time when the Minor Hotels plan to expand its hoe grown brands Anantara and AVANI.

 

 

Marlon Abeyakoon began his career back around 1999 with One&Only in Dubai. In 2013, he moved to the UK with glh Hotels and Hilton and served as Hotel Manager of the DoubleTree London.

 

 

Around 2018, he moved to Sri Lanka in 2018 to work as the General Manager of the Reethi Beach Resort. Later he headed to Fiji as General Manager of the Sheraton Fiji Resort, his most recent position before joining the Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort.

 

 

Marlon is also a professional communicator and holds the ability to put others at ease and build relationships. He prefers to focus on team development with an aim to deliver success. He is very proactive by nature which gives him the ability to implement new ideas towards growth and better service standards.
