The United Arab Emirates will open up tourist visa applications to everyone who’s vaccinated with one of the shots approved by the World Health Organisation, for boosting the country’s key tourism sector.

This decision applies to citizens of all countries, including those arriving from previously banned nations, said state-run WAM. The move is part of the UAE’s strategy to support “national efforts to achieve sustainable recovery and economic growth,” said the news agency.

The new rules will come into effect on August 30. Passengers arriving on tourist visas need to register their vaccination status on the government’s health app and undertake rapid testing at the airport, said WAM.

Since struggling arrivals from countries including India, Pakistan and Nigeria, the UAE has been gradually easing travel rules. The country, whose biggest cities include Abu Dhabi and Dubai, started permitting residents return earlier this month.
