Hawaii visitors almost reach pre-pandemic levels

This year, the number of travelers visiting Hawaii has almost reached the levels before the pandemic.

The equally positive news is, visitor spending has surpassed the levels of 2019.

During January of this year, Hawaii witnessed approximately 791,781 visitors.

That’s a 37.9 percent surge compared to January 2022 and 96.8 percent retrieval in total number of visitors from January 2019.

It remains the benchmark year before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Information released by the Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT) in Hawaii shows that tourists to the islands spent $1.89 billion during January this year.

When compared to January 2022’s expenditure of $1.4 billion, it marks a 35.5 percent upsurge.

John De Fries, the President and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority said that Hawaii’s tourist industry and the financial retrieval of the state continues to be boosted mainly by improved spending among visitors from the U.S. East and West, followed by the stable revival of Hawaii’s principal global visitor markets.

Canadian visitors also visited Hawaii during the first month of 2023. As per newly released data, total expenditure from Canadian tourists almost touched the levels of 2019.
