Kazakhstan’s Air Astana Expands Asia Travel With New Astana Bangkok Route Boosting Tourism Growth Kazakhstan’s Air Astana is expanding its international network across Asia with new direct services to Thailand and Malaysia, introducing a new Astana Bangkok connection from December 2026 and a seasonal Almaty Langkawi route from the same winter travel period. The airline will begin operating flights between Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, and Thailand’s Bangkok from December 11, 2026. The new service will run twice weekly with Airbus A321LR aircraft, adding a new international link for passengers travelling between northern Kazakhstan and one of Asia’s most popular tourism destinations.

The launch of the Astana Bangkok route comes as travel demand between Kazakhstan and Thailand continues to grow. The new connection will increase the overall number of flights between the two countries to 20 services per week across four different routes, creating more options for both leisure and business travellers.

Currently, Kazakhstan’s air connectivity with Thailand is supported through several existing services. Air Astana operates daily (7 weekly) or scheduled 9 weekly peak flights on Almaty–Bangkok, increasing overall bilateral traffic to 20 weekly services alongside SCAT Airlines and Thai AirAsia X.

The addition of the Astana Bangkok service will broaden Thailand access beyond Kazakhstan’s largest commercial city, Almaty. Travellers from Astana and surrounding regions will gain a direct connection to Bangkok, reducing the need for domestic transfers and making Southeast Asian travel more convenient.

Bangkok remains one of the most important tourism and business gateways in Asia, offering connections to Thailand’s cultural attractions, beach destinations and regional markets. The new route is expected to support increased visitor movement between Kazakhstan and Thailand while creating additional opportunities for tourism partnerships and economic exchanges.

Alongside its Thailand expansion, Air Astana is also strengthening its Southeast Asian network with a new seasonal service to Malaysia’s Langkawi island.

Starts December 11, 2026; operates 2x weekly using Airbus A321LR aircraft. The seasonal route will operate three times per week using Airbus A321neo aircraft, providing Kazakhstan travellers with improved access to one of Malaysia’s leading island destinations.

Langkawi has become increasingly popular among international visitors due to its beaches, natural landscapes, luxury resorts and outdoor experiences. The new direct connection will support winter tourism demand by offering travellers from Kazakhstan a simpler route to Malaysia’s tropical getaway.

The introduction of both Bangkok and Langkawi services highlights Air Astana’s continued focus on expanding its Asian network.
