US Joins China and South Korea as Global TIFFCOM Reach Strengthens Tokyo Film Tourism Across Forty-Six Markets because the event draws international professionals into the Japanese capital for screenings, meetings and business. Official 2025 TIFFCOM data recorded 4,592 participants, including 1,874 from overseas, with 46 countries and regions represented overall. That global mix supports hotels, transport, dining and central Tokyo activity. US Joins China and South Korea as Global TIFFCOM Reach Strengthens Tokyo Film Tourism Across Forty-Six Markets because film, media and business travel now connect Tokyo with a wider international audience during the festival season during its busy autumn.
TIFFCOM has become an important international meeting point for film, television, animation and intellectual-property businesses.
Its 2025 edition recorded 4,592 participants, up from 4,088 in 2024. Overseas participation reached 1,874, representing 41% of the total. The number of participating countries and regions increased from 38 to 46.
TIFFCOM also recorded 322 exhibitors, 20 seminars and more than 2,700 cumulative seminar participants. The event’s official 2026 site additionally reports more than 7,700 business meetings during the 2025 edition.

For Tokyo, these figures demonstrate that the film-festival period extends beyond cinema audiences. It also attracts international producers, buyers, distributors and other industry professionals travelling to the Japanese capital for business.

The detailed official TIFFCOM 2025 market report provides a closer look at visitor origins.
Among the visitor records included in that table, South Korea accounted for 164 visitors and China for 110. Taiwan recorded 75, Thailand 54 and Hong Kong 49. Singapore contributed 21, Vietnam 13, Mongolia 10, Indonesia nine, while India, Malaysia and the Philippines each recorded eight.

This concentration gives Tokyo a particularly strong Asia-Pacific business-travel connection during the content-market period.
It also fits TIFFCOM’s official positioning as an Asian content market bringing together film, television, animation and related intellectual-property businesses from Japan and abroad.
The same official visitor table shows substantial participation from Europe.
France recorded 29 visitors, the United Kingdom 13, Germany 10, Italy four and Spain three. Other European markets included Austria, Denmark, Finland, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Switzerland and Ukraine.
These numbers matter because European participation adds a long-haul dimension to Tokyo’s film-industry travel market.
The figures should still be interpreted carefully. They represent TIFFCOM’s detailed visitor statistics, not all tourists travelling from those countries to Tokyo during the festival period.
North America was another important source of TIFFCOM visitors.
The 2025 market report counted 77 visitors from the United States and 16 from Canada. Mexico and Brazil contributed four visitors each. Australia recorded five visitors and New Zealand one.
The Middle East was represented by visitors from Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates. Nigeria represented Africa in the detailed visitor table.
The official detailed table covers 1,256 visitors from 44 countries and regions. This differs from the overall TIFFCOM figure of 46 countries and regions because the two statistics use different reporting scopes. The broader official participation count remains 46.
TIFFCOM 2026 will take place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-Kan from 28 to 30 October.
The official venue information places it about four minutes on foot from Hamamatsucho Station, two minutes from Takeshiba Station and five minutes from Daimon Station. Haneda Airport has a direct Tokyo Monorail connection to Hamamatsucho, while the official access guidance also provides a route from Narita Airport.
This location puts international delegates within central Tokyo’s transport, accommodation, dining and business infrastructure.
However, TIFFCOM has not published an official figure showing exactly how much hotel revenue, restaurant spending or wider tourism expenditure its participants generate. Those impacts should therefore not be presented as measured results.
The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival runs from 26 October to 4 November 2026.
Press and industry accreditation is already open, and the festival is preparing to receive journalists, film professionals and other accredited participants for screenings, conferences and related activity.
TIFFCOM visitor registration is also open for 2026. Organisers describe the market as a place for business involving completed content, intellectual property, remake rights, adaptations, co-production, financing, localisation and technology.
Together, TIFF and TIFFCOM give Tokyo a two-part travel proposition: cultural audiences attend films and festival events, while international professionals arrive for industry meetings and commercial activity.
The strongest official evidence remains the 2025 benchmark: 4,592 TIFFCOM participants, 1,874 from overseas and representation across 46 countries and regions. With the 2026 edition returning in late October, Tokyo is again positioned to become a major international meeting point for film, media, culture and business travel.
