Elkins is ready to turn the colours of autumn into a big West Virginia celebration. The 88th Mountain State Forest Festival will take place from 26 September to 4 October 2026.

For nine days, this mountain city will fill with parades, music, sports, crafts, royal traditions, food and family events. The festival is one of the state’s oldest and largest autumn gatherings. Its 2026 theme is “Autumn in Color.”

A cornhole tournament is also planned for the opening Saturday. On Sunday, 27 September, the programme includes the 10K, 5K and Pump N Run.

The Pet Show will take place at 7pm on Monday, 28 September, at Elkins High School. It gives families and local pet owners a cheerful evening event.

Other established festival features include the carnival, children’s activities, crafts, quilts, Highland dance, turkey calling, a lumberjack contest and food vendors.
