Vietnam travellers are witnessing the country’s rapid rise as a global tourism hotspot as foreign visitor arrivals approached two million in August 2026, driven by stronger international air connectivity, growing demand from major Asian and European markets, and Vietnam’s expanding reputation for diverse experiences, including cultural heritage, coastal escapes, natural landscapes, and modern travel infrastructure. The strong August performance, recorded during a traditionally quieter travel period, highlights the country’s growing international appeal and its continued progress toward achieving its annual tourism growth targets.
Vietnam’s international tourism sector has recorded a powerful recovery in 2026, welcoming nearly 16 million foreign visitors during the first eight months of the year. The strong performance reflects rising global demand for Vietnamese destinations, improved international connectivity, and growing interest from key markets across Asia, Europe, and beyond.

From January to August 2026, Vietnam recorded a 14.4% increase in international arrivals compared with the same period in 2025. The result represents approximately 63.6% of the country’s full-year tourism target, placing Vietnam on a strong path toward achieving its annual visitor ambitions.
The August performance was particularly significant because the month is generally considered a slower period for international travel. Despite seasonal challenges, Vietnam continued to attract overseas travellers, showing that its tourism appeal remains strong throughout the year.

Vietnam’s tourism growth has been supported by strong air connectivity, which continues to serve as the primary gateway for international visitors. Around 83% of foreign travellers entered the country by air, highlighting the important role of expanding flight networks in supporting tourism recovery and international accessibility.
Alongside aviation growth, arrivals through land borders also increased steadily. Neighbouring countries contributed significantly to this growth, with regional travellers benefiting from convenient overland connections and easier access to Vietnam’s diverse destinations.
The country’s tourism appeal continues to expand beyond traditional holiday markets. Vietnam’s combination of beaches, cultural attractions, heritage sites, natural landscapes, and modern tourism infrastructure has helped strengthen its position as one of Asia’s most attractive destinations.
Asia continued to dominate Vietnam’s international visitor landscape during the first eight months of 2026. The region contributed around 11.8 million travellers, accounting for nearly three-quarters of all foreign arrivals.

Although Asian markets remained the largest source of visitors, Europe recorded the strongest growth among major regions. European arrivals increased by 53.4%, reaching approximately 2.68 million visitors. The rapid rise demonstrates growing demand for Vietnam among European travellers seeking long-haul destinations with cultural experiences, natural beauty, and competitive travel options.
Visitor numbers from the Americas also showed strong momentum. The region recorded around 887,000 arrivals, representing a 20.7% year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, Oceania contributed nearly 489,000 visitors, marking growth of 23.3%.
Africa also recorded positive movement, with approximately 45,000 visitors arriving from the continent, an increase of 25.1% compared with the previous year.
China remained Vietnam’s largest overseas tourism market in 2026, contributing around 3.54 million visitors during the January–August period. Chinese travellers represented approximately 22.3% of Vietnam’s total international arrivals.
South Korea ranked as the second-largest source market, with nearly 2.76 million visitors. Together, China and South Korea generated more than 6.3 million arrivals, accounting for almost 40% of Vietnam’s total foreign visitor numbers.
The continued strength of these two markets highlights the importance of regional connectivity and strong tourism links between Vietnam and major Asian economies.
Russia also emerged as a major growth market, reaching more than 1 million visitors and securing third place among Vietnam’s leading international source markets. Russian arrivals increased by around 165.7%, representing the highest growth rate among major visitor markets.
The recovery of Russian tourism has been supported by renewed travel demand, expanded charter flight connections, and Vietnam’s growing reputation as a safe and attractive Asian destination.
Beyond its largest markets, Vietnam has witnessed impressive growth from several international destinations. Visitor numbers from the United States increased by 20.4%, while Cambodia recorded a 41.5% rise.
The Philippines delivered one of the strongest performances, with arrivals increasing by 58.8%. Japan also maintained steady growth with a 9.2% increase, while Australia recorded a 23.3% rise.
European markets continued their positive momentum, with several countries showing double-digit growth. Arrivals from Poland increased by 51.2%, followed by Switzerland at 27%, Sweden at 25.1%, Germany at 15.1%, France at 13.4%, and the United Kingdom at 9.8%.
Southeast Asian markets also remained important contributors. Malaysia recorded growth of 20.5%, Singapore increased by 31.7%, and Indonesia rose by 26.7%, strengthening Vietnam’s regional tourism network.
Vietnam’s tourism momentum continues to accelerate as nearly two million international travellers arrived in August 2026, powered by stronger global demand, improved connectivity, and rising worldwide interest in the country’s unique travel experiences.
India has become one of Vietnam’s most promising emerging tourism markets. Indian visitor numbers have grown dramatically, rising from around 102,000 in 2019 to more than 612,000 during the first eight months of 2026.
The growth has been driven by improved direct air connections between major Indian cities and Vietnamese destinations, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. Better flight access has made Vietnam increasingly convenient for Indian travellers seeking international holidays, cultural experiences, and beach destinations.
With rising demand from India, continued growth from Europe, and strong recovery from key Asian markets, Vietnam is strengthening its position as a leading tourism destination in the global travel landscape. The country’s expanding connectivity, diverse attractions, and growing international appeal are expected to support further tourism growth throughout 2026 and beyond.
