ABTA is providing its members with an opportunity to engage with officials from the Department for Business and Trade, who are overseeing the review of the Package Travel Regulations (PTRs). These workshops, held in November and December, aim to discuss the proposed changes and their implications for both businesses and customers.

The government’s initial thoughts on PTR changes were outlined in the recently launched PTR Call for Evidence, emphasizing the importance for the government to comprehend the impact of these alterations on businesses and holidaymakers. All ABTA members are welcome to attend these workshops.

The Association has organized workshops for its members to directly engage with the Department for Business and Trade regarding the Package Travel Regulations review. The workshops will be held on the following dates and locations:

• 21 November: Edinburgh
• End of November (date to be confirmed): Birmingham
• 5 December: Manchester

ABTA members interested in attending these workshops can sign up at https://www.abta.com/events/abta-package-travel-regulations-roadshow The first workshop was held in London last week, where various critical issues were discussed. These included topics like excluding UK and lower-cost holidays, including school trips, from protection; the 14-day refund payment requirement; the rights of redress for organizers against their suppliers; and the question of whether business travelers should be covered under the Regulations.

The feedback and points raised during these workshops will be used to shape ABTA’s response to the consultation. Additionally, ABTA has also initiated a survey for its members to provide valuable feedback on these matters.

Luke Petherbridge, Director of Public Affairs at ABTA said: “The Package Travel Regulations are the legislative backbone of our industry – it’s what dictates how our members provide holidays to customers, and meeting these regulations is an important part of the ABTA Code of Conduct.”
