Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) proudly announces its latest accolade: winning the ‘Best Airport over 40 million passengers’ in the Asia Pacific region at the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards. This marks the seventh consecutive year that CSMIA has been honored with this prestigious title. The ASQ awards, renowned in the airport industry, are based on passenger feedback, underscoring the airport’s unwavering dedication to providing exceptional customer experiences.

This recognition celebrates CSMIA’s ongoing commitment to delivering superior customer service. Over the past year, CSMIA has undertaken various initiatives to enhance its facilities and services. Notably, the completion of the Runway 14/32 re-carpeting project has bolstered safety measures, while the introduction of ‘Taxiway Z’ aims to reduce ground delays, minimize carbon emissions, and position CSMIA as a frontrunner in environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, CSMIA has introduced a dedicated domestic-to-domestic passenger transfer facility within Terminal-2 (T2), streamlining transit for travelers with connecting domestic flights. In a pioneering move towards safety, CSMIA has commissioned a specialized Disabled Aircraft Recovery Kit (DARK), equipped with High-Pressure lifting bags, making it the first airport in Asia to possess such a facility, ensuring efficient recovery processes for even the largest commercial aircraft.

In its pursuit of passenger-centric initiatives, CSMIA organized a 70-day-long Summer Carnival, enriching passengers’ experiences and facilitating seamless travel. The implementation of 2D Barcode readers and an advanced Parking Guidance System at Terminal 2 further enhances entry procedures and parking experiences, reflecting CSMIA’s commitment to passenger convenience.

The DigiYatra initiative, introduced at Terminal 2, utilizes artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology to automate and expedite the check-in process, enabling paperless and seamless travel. Additionally, the enhanced Pre-Embarkation Security Check (PESC) area, inaugurated at Mumbai International Airport, aims to improve processing capacity, reduce wait times, and ensure a secure yet smooth travel experience for passengers.

November 2023 marked significant milestones for CSMIA, with record-breaking passenger traffic movements. The airport achieved its highest single-day passenger traffic on November 25th, with 167,132 passengers, including over 120,000 domestic and 46,000 international passengers. Furthermore, CSMIA set a new single-day record of 1,032 Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs) on November 11, 2023.

In its commitment to sustainability, CSMIA is making substantial progress towards becoming net-zero by 2029. Efforts such as eliminating Single-Use Plastic and introducing eco-friendly mobility options like Uber Green have earned CSMIA recognition as the ‘Best Sustainable Airport of the Year’ by ASSOCHAM. Additionally, CSMIA’s Platinum Rating in the prestigious Green Airports Recognition (GAR) Programme 2023 by ACI Asia-Pacific underscores its dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

These initiatives reflect CSMIA’s unwavering dedication to meeting the evolving demands of its passengers while upholding the highest standards of service and sustainability.

Speaking on the occasion, the spokesperson of CSMIA said, “It is with great pride that we receive the 2023 ASQ Award once again for ‘Best Airport over 40 million passengers’ category in Asia-Pacific, one of the most prestigious accolades in our industry. This remarkable achievement applauds the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of the exceptional team at CSMIA. Like a well-oiled machine, they continuously strive to exceed expectations, ensuring that every passenger’s journey is not just seamless, but truly memorable.

Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Director General, ACI World said, “The Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards celebrate more than outstanding customer experience; it recognizes the innovation and dedication of your entire airport team. Congratulations to Mumbai International Airport for your hard work that is redefining the airport experience.”

The ACI ratings remain among the most esteemed accolades in the aviation industry, recognizing top airports worldwide. The Airport Service Quality (ASQ) surveys, conducted globally, involve interviewing passengers to gauge airport services prior to their flights. The rigorous methodology and adherence to global standards by the committee demonstrate the fairness of these awards in acknowledging airports’ excellence in service, surpassing mere satisfaction to meet travelers’ needs.

With cutting-edge infrastructure, digital innovations, and sustainability initiatives, CSMIA continues to lead in the aviation sector. Prioritizing customer satisfaction and convenience, CSMIA remains committed to offering safe and comfortable travel experiences, epitomizing excellence across all airport operations.
