Aer Lingus has initiated its 2024 Aircraft Engineer Apprentice Programme, with openings for 10 candidates and a strong emphasis on fostering diversity among applicants.

Successful participants completing the programme will emerge as certified aircraft engineers, poised for a career journey within Aer Lingus. They will integrate into the Maintenance and Engineering team, engaging with cutting-edge aviation technology and eco-conscious aircraft like the Airbus Neo series. This progressive initiative bolsters Aer Lingus’ capacity by nurturing a pool of skilled engineers for future expansion.

With a legacy dating back to 1962, Aer Lingus boasts a rich tradition of supporting apprenticeships. Since 2011, the airline has facilitated the career development of 154 aircraft engineers who graduated from its apprentice programme.

This four-year endeavour, conducted in collaboration with SOLAS and Technological University Dublin, promises budding engineers hands-on experience alongside the attainment of full Aircraft Engineer qualifications.

Starting in September 2024, this comprehensive program, which covers all expenses and offers a salary, combines traditional classroom learning with hands-on training, emphasizing line-maintenance techniques and Aer Lingus’ customer-focused values. The educational journey kicks off in Dublin, moves to Shannon for the first year, and wraps up back in Dublin. Upon successfully finishing the program, apprentices will have the opportunity to pursue careers as fully qualified aircraft engineers at Aer Lingus.

Aer Lingus Chief Technical Officer, Javier Jimenez, said: “The Aer Lingus 2024 Aircraft Engineer Apprentice Programme provides an excellent opportunity for aspiring aircraft engineers to gain practical experience and become fully qualified aircraft engineers at our airline.

We have a rich history of providing initial career opportunities. Our apprenticeship programme continues in that wonderful tradition and enables us to develop raw talent that is crucial to evolving our Maintenance and Engineering team. With only 10 places available, we encourage anyone interested to apply as early as possible”.

Prospective candidates must showcase robust technical and mechanical prowess, alongside unwavering enthusiasm, resilience, and a commitment to the four-year program. Additionally, they must possess superb communication abilities and demonstrate both individual initiative and effective teamwork.

Interested individuals can apply online through Aer Lingus’ careers page by submitting their CV. Those meeting the essential requirements will proceed to an online assessment and an interview. Applicants must have reached the age of 18 by September 1st, 2024.

The application window for the 2024 Programme is currently active on www.aerlingus.com and will remain accessible until March 19th, 2024.
