South Europe Ground Services has been selected as the name for the newly established company, already enlisted in the Madrid Commercial Register. SOEGS is poised to offer ramp handling services for Iberia, Iberia Express, Vueling, and Level across all Spanish airports, along with passenger handling services for British Airways, Air Nostrum, and Aer Lingus. Additionally, it will extend its services to third-party companies at airports where Iberia Airport Services has secured licensing through the latest Aena tender.
This company, fully backed by IAG with a majority stake held by Iberia, is the fruit of an agreement inked between Iberia and its labor unions on February 2nd. The primary objective is to ensure a sustainable and competitive future for the handling business and its workforce. SOEGS will operate with autonomy and will absorb the current Airport Direction employees of Iberia, who will retain their existing rights and conditions as per the Iberia Agreement.
Miguel Ángel Gimeno, presently serving as the Director of Ground Operations at Vueling, is set to assume the role of CEO at South Europe Ground Services (SOEGS). Gimeno boasts substantial experience in airport management, holding a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Zaragoza and an MBA from IESE Business School. With a career spanning 17 years, most of which were spent at Vueling, he has held various leadership positions, including Director of OCC and Director of Crew and In-flight Service.
For the CEO of SOEGS, “taking on the leadership of this new company, within the IAG group, is a real challenge. I am convinced that, thanks to our team made up of the best professionals, we will write a page of success in the handling business in Spain, and we will work tirelessly to grow internationally”.
