Agoda reveals top 5 Asian cities for 2024 New Year Celebrations

Discover 2024’s top New Year destinations as Agoda unveils its list, featuring vibrant Asian cities like Tokyo, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur.

As 2024 dawned, the online travel service Agoda revealed its annual ranking of the most popular destinations for New Year’s celebrations. The top five spots were dominated by dynamic Asian cities: Tokyo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, and Osaka.

Tokyo, the energetic capital of Japan, once again clinched the top spot as the favorite destination for ‘Ōmisoka’ (Japanese New Year’s Eve) celebrations. Bangkok, the pulsating heart of Thailand, known for its dazzling firework shows along the Chao Phraya River, secured the second place. Even with the absence of its traditional fireworks at KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, managed to hold onto the third position.

In fourth place, Taipei made an appearance with its renowned Taipei 101 New Year’s Eve Countdown, maintaining its position from the previous year. Osaka, celebrated for its exuberant street festivities and age-old bell-ringing traditions, ascended from the 8th to the 5th position, overtaking Pattaya. The renowned beach spot in Thailand settled for the 7th place this year.

Agoda’s CEO, Omri Morgenshtern, commented, “This year’s New Year’s Eve saw Japan’s sustained appeal among both local and international tourists, with both Tokyo and Osaka making it to the top five. The variety of experiences, from traditional Japanese bell ringing in Tokyo to the spectacular river fireworks in Bangkok, reflects the diverse interests of travelers in ringing in the new year.”
