Ahmedabad, Delhi,

India’s new bullet train slashes Ahmedabad to Delhi travel time to just 3.5 hours, revolutionizing rapid transit in the region.

The incumbent administration has pledged to deliver a high-speed rail line for each of northern, southern, and eastern India. Currently, the only active high-speed rail construction is the route from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in western India. Additionally, plans are in place for another high-speed line between Ahmedabad and Delhi, marking the second such venture in Gujarat.

This upcoming route aims to connect Ahmedabad with Delhi, dramatically reducing the travel duration between these two major cities. The planned train will travel at speeds averaging 250 km/hour along an elevated track, shortening what is now a 12-hour trip to approximately 3.5 hours.

A recently completed detailed project report by the railway authorities specifies the proposed trajectory, which will feature important stops at cities like Himmatnagar, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Jaipur, Rewari, and Manesar. This Ahmedabad-Delhi high-speed rail proposal aligns with the national initiative to bolster high-speed rail networks across various regions to enhance connectivity and promote tourism.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation began the tendering process for the line’s final alignment design in September 2020, using aerial LiDAR surveys to streamline the planning stage. The project is pending central government approval to move forward. Once completed, the nearly 900-km elevated track will cut travel time by about nine hours.

Railway officials have designed the track to align closely with the existing rail infrastructure to reduce the land acquisition requirements, which often pose significant challenges in large infrastructure endeavors. The high-speed service is set to start at Sabarmati station, already developed as a multimodal transport hub, and will reach speeds up to 350 km per hour. The train will serve selected stations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana as it makes its way to Delhi.

Furthermore, the eagerly awaited high-speed service between Ahmedabad and Mumbai is expected to start operations by July 2026. This expansion of high-speed rail services across India is a major advancement in improving the country’s transportation infrastructure and public connectivity.
