Air Serbia and Menzies Aviation Achieve Milestone with Pioneering All-Electric Turnaround

Today at Belgrade Airport, Air Serbia, the national airline of Serbia, and the British company Menzies Aviation accomplished a groundbreaking feat in the region by conducting aircraft turnaround operations using solely electric-powered vehicles for the first time. This milestone was marked by the all-electric rotations of Air Serbia’s Airbus A319 aircraft, with registration numbers YU-APL flying to Podgorica and YU-APF to Tivat.

Menzies Aviation, which assumed ground handling services for Air Serbia at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport from Belgrade Airport on March 5, 2024, boasts a substantial fleet of electric vehicles. These specialized electric vehicles, utilized for tasks such as aircraft pushback and baggage transport, are poised to significantly reduce the carbon footprint in domestic aviation operations.

“We are extremely pleased with the successful implementation of the first all-electric turnaround at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, achieved in collaboration with Menzies Aviation. This initiative represents a step towards reducing carbon footprint. Air Serbia continuously strives for socially responsible business practices, and today’s milestone confirms our dedication in that regard. In October 2023, Air Serbia and Menzies Aviation entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, signaling a shift in the ground handling operator at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. The objective is to elevate the service standards for the Serbian national airline while also improving the overall passenger experience. Menzies Aviation, a renowned global provider, now oversees aircraft handling services, passenger and baggage check-in, and boarding procedures for Air Serbia flights in Belgrade.
