Tourism Malaysia has announced the initiation of new direct AirAsia flights from Guwahati and Kozhikode (Calicut) to Kuala Lumpur, enhancing the air travel linkage between India and Malaysia. This move aims to simplify travel for tourists and fortify the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Starting August 2, 2024, the flights will run three times a week, providing passengers from Guwahati and Kozhikode with straightforward, visa-free routes to Kuala Lumpur. This direct service enables travelers to effortlessly explore Malaysia’s vast array of attractions, such as the majestic Petronas Twin Towers, the serene beaches of Langkawi, and the rich cultural tapestry of Penang.
Mr Manoharan Periasamy, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, stated: “We are excited to partner with AirAsia to enhance accessibility for travellers from Guwahati and Kozhikode. These direct flights underscore our commitment to promoting tourism and strengthening bilateral relations. We are confident these routes will boost tourist arrivals and provide visitors with unforgettable experiences in Malaysia.”
India represents a significant tourism market for Malaysia, and with these new air routes, Tourism Malaysia is targeting an influx of 1 million Indian visitors by the year’s end. In fact, April 2024 saw a surge in Indian tourists by 80.2% from the previous year, totaling 295,000 visitors.
