In the first three months of 2024, Alstom, a forefront company in intelligent and eco-friendly transportation, together with CLIP Intermodal, an entity under the Clip Group focusing on multimodal freight services, revealed their agreement for Alstom to provide a fleet of 13 next-gen Traxx electric locomotives. These state-of-the-art locomotives, slated for approval across key European regions including France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, and Poland, will be produced at Alstom’s Kassel facility in Germany. Additionally, the production of the locomotive bodies will take place at Alstom’s plant in Wrocław, Poland.

“Following the expansion of our Intermodal Terminal in Swarzędz, the purchase of modern multi-system locomotives is another milestone in the development of CLIP Group. As our terminal has eight reloading tracks, with an annual capacity of over 1 million TEU, and our own fleet accounts to 500 intermodal wagons, it has been natural for us to invest in our own locomotives. I am convinced that Traxx locomotives will strengthen the position of CLIP Intermodal, contributing to the further development of sustainable and low-emission European transport corridors. We focus on intermodal transport as it has huge potential, especially in the context of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The development of this type of transport is also the best response to the challenges that stand in the way of improving network capacity and traffic safety in transport,” emphasises Agnieszka Hipś, the CEO of CLIP Group S.A.

Marked by their superior operational efficiency, dependability, energy conservation, and user-friendly maintenance, the third-gen Traxx electric locomotives stand out for their capacity to haul heavier loads at speeds reaching up to 160 km/h. They will incorporate Alstom’s advanced Onvia signaling system, the brand’s top-tier solution compatible with the European Train Control System (ETCS) for extensive cross-country applicability and integration with existing networks. Alstom, a global pioneer in locomotive upkeep, manages over 2,450 locomotives worldwide, including nearly 600 Traxx units.

“The third generation of Traxx locomotives is an investment for a future focused on effective and environmentally conscious intermodal transport. We are proud that Alstom’s modern solutions have supported the growth of this industry in Poland for many years, while helping logistics operators achieve their strategic goals. The contract with CLIP Intermodal marks our first delivery of locomotives to a domestic, private operator in the European France – Poland corridor. I am convinced that Traxx locomotives will contribute to a further development of a sustainable and low-emission Trans-European Transport Network.” declares Sławomir Cyza, Managing Director of Alstom Polska.

Alstom’s Traxx locomotives are renowned for their adaptable design, derived from a robust, modular concept that accommodates various freight and passenger transport needs across different countries in single or multi-system configurations. These locomotives boast improved operational efficiency, reliability, energy saving, and longer maintenance intervals for better service availability. A notable feature is the ‘Last Mile’ capability, enabling seamless transitions onto non-electrified tracks, which is crucial for reaching ports, industrial sites, or terminals. Certified in 20 countries and covering over 300 million kilometres annually, more than 5,700 Alstom-produced locomotives have been operational since 2000, serving regions across Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa.
