In an effort to improve its offerings for premium customers, American Airlines is planning to construct the biggest Admirals Club lounge in its entire network in Charlotte, NC. The construction is going to result in a lounge of more than 40,000 square feet, which will create a much bigger space for premium customers passing through the busiest connection point of American Airlines.

The lounge will be built in the atrium of the airport, at the mezzanine level. This development is part of a plan by American Airlines to upgrade its offering to customers in Charlotte, which is also seeing the construction of its first ever Flagship Lounge.

Charlotte’s New Lounge Will Offer More Space to Relax, Work and Recharge

The new Admirals Club is being designed around different passenger needs, with dedicated areas intended for relaxation, dining, working and recovery. The completed space will feature several distinct zones, including:

  • Spa-style shower suites
  • Bars and serveries
  • Relaxation areas
  • Dining spaces
  • Work areas
  • Dedicated spaces to recharge

The design aims to provide greater flexibility for passengers spending time at CLT between flights. American Airlines Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden said creating additional space for customers to relax, work and recharge is a central priority behind the project. The scale of the lounge will make it the largest Admirals Club in American’s network once completed.

New Admirals Club Design Draws Inspiration From Charlotte

American Airlines is incorporating elements of Charlotte’s character into the design of the new lounge. The concept will reflect several features associated with the city and region, including its tree canopy, textile heritage and combination of modern sophistication and Southern charm.

This destination-inspired approach is intended to create a lounge experience that feels connected to Charlotte rather than functioning as a generic airport facility. The design will combine premium amenities with visual elements inspired by the local environment and cultural identity. The central atrium location will also provide views over the concourse, allowing travellers to remain connected to the activity of the airport while enjoying a more comfortable environment.

Existing Charlotte Airport Lounges Will Remain Open During Construction

American Airlines will begin construction while continuing to provide existing premium lounge facilities at CLT. The current locations that will remain available during construction include:

  • Provisions by Admirals Club near Gate A1
  • Admirals Club in Concourse B
  • Admirals Club in Concourse C/D

This approach allows customers to continue accessing lounge facilities while the new flagship Admirals Club space is being developed. The additional lounge capacity is expected to provide more room for passengers as American continues operating a substantial schedule through Charlotte.

Charlotte Serves as American Airlines’ Second-Largest Hub

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is American Airlines’ second-largest hub, connecting millions of passengers with destinations across the United States and internationally. American currently operates more than 650 peak daily flights from Charlotte, providing connections to more than 180 destinations in 27 countries.

The scale of the operation makes CLT a significant connecting point within American’s network. For passengers travelling through the airport, the new Admirals Club is intended to provide a larger premium environment where they can spend time between flights. The project therefore forms part of American’s broader effort to align airport facilities with the scale of its Charlotte operation.

American Airlines Continues Premium Investment Across Its Network

The Charlotte lounge project follows other recent investments by American Airlines in its premium airport experience. The airline previously announced plans to expand lounge capacity at Charlotte, including the introduction of its first Flagship Lounge.

American has also been developing new premium facilities at other major hubs, including Dallas Fort Worth. The wider investment programme focuses on providing customers with improved spaces, premium services and greater choice throughout their journey. The new Charlotte Admirals Club will add another major facility to this network-wide expansion.

AAdvantage Members Can Access Admirals Club Benefits

American Airlines is also highlighting several ways for eligible customers to access Admirals Club lounges through its AAdvantage® programme and related products. For domestic travel, lounge access can be available through:

  • Admirals Club membership
  • Qualifying oneworld status
  • Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®

Certain eligible cardholders can also use annual Admirals Club passes. Customers can additionally purchase a One-Day Pass, valid for 24 hours, for $79 or 7,900 AAdvantage® miles. These options provide different pathways for travellers seeking access to American’s lounge network.

Premium Charlotte Lounge Adds Wellness and Practical Travel Amenities

The inclusion of spa-style shower suites gives the new Charlotte lounge an additional wellness component. Shower facilities can be particularly valuable for passengers making long connections or travelling on extended international itineraries.

Alongside these facilities, work zones and dining areas will allow customers to use their time at the airport according to their individual needs. The lounge is therefore being designed as more than a waiting area. It will function as a flexible airport environment where passengers can work, eat, relax or refresh themselves before continuing their journeys.

New Charlotte Admirals Club Strengthens American’s Commitment to CLT

American Airlines Senior Vice President of CLT Operations Ralph Lopez Massas described the project as another investment in the customer experience and a reflection of the airline’s longstanding commitment to Charlotte. The new lounge will become the largest in American’s global network when completed.

Its location at one of the airline’s most connected hubs is expected to provide a major new premium facility for passengers travelling through Charlotte. The design also aims to showcase elements of the surrounding region, giving travellers a stronger sense of place during their airport experience.

Charlotte Airport Investment Reflects Growing Importance of Premium Travel

The new Admirals Club is part of American Airlines’ broader effort to improve the experience for passengers travelling through its largest hubs. As airlines increasingly compete on more than flight schedules and fares, airport lounges have become an important component of premium travel.

Customers increasingly expect comfortable spaces where they can work, dine, relax and refresh before flights. American’s investment in Charlotte responds to these expectations while supporting the needs of passengers using the airport as a major connecting hub.

American Airlines Prepares Major Premium Lounge Expansion in Charlotte

The Admirals Club, which will take up more than 40,000 square feet, is set to increase American Airlines’ premium services at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The project will commence in the current year and the existing lounges will be left intact to allow for the major revamp without taking away any existing lounge facilities. The Admirals Club, upon completion, will feature Charlotte-inspired design, dining, working, relaxation, and spa amenities.

The Admirals Club will form part of a larger Flagship Lounge which is set to be built by the airline company. This shows that American Airlines is committed to enhancing its premium services for its customers. The Admirals Club will offer customers more facilities and space for relaxation, dining and working before boarding their flights.
